9 Recent Hilites in SciFi Romance

NOTE: This post first appeared in the Roswell Daily Record…

This month I thought I’d provide an update on what some of the top names in scifi romance are writing these days. For a topic like this, one has to start with Ruby Dixon, she of Ice Planet Barbarians fame. She never rests on her laurels and while doing special editions of the Barbarians, she does have a new release coming at the end of June –  Corvak’s Challenge (Ice Planet Clones Book Four), which is a spin-off series but just as full of spice, romance and adventure as the original. She’s dipped into romantasy with her Artifactual Guild. Book one is Bull Moon Rising with this premise: “In a world of magical artifacts and fantastical beings, a woman determined to save her family joins forces with an unlikely partner…”.  The second book will be released in early September. She now has 17 books in her Risdaverse series, set on a farm planet in a remote part of the galaxy. The latest was When She Wishes, with secret babies, a catlike alien Main Male Character and a female farmer who needs help. And then there’s the two book (so far) Sunrise Cantina, also set on Risda. Plenty of good reading for Ms. Dixon’s fans!       AmazonKU Preorder link (out June 30)

Going now in no certain order:

Anna Hackett has been concentrating mostly on her romantic suspense novels of late but she did begin a new SFR series Hunter Squad. Jameson is book one and the premise is “We survived the invasion and beat the aliens. But they left something behind…Humanity is rebuilding after a devastating invasion. But the growing towns all have walls to protect them from the monsters. Created in alien labs, the monsters hide in the swamps, rivers, and forests—breeding, mutating. Every now and then, they crawl out of the shadows.” The series is a follow-on to her immensely successful Hell Squad, where the alien invaders controlled Earth and the human resistance desperately fought back. Lots of action and spice. (NOTE: Book two NORTH is out now as well.)       AmazonKU     AB

Honey Phillips has been switching off between orc romance, cozy monster romance and her SFR projects. Book 13 in her Treasured by the Alien series, Legacy for the Alien Warrior will be released in mid-June, however, and it sounds really good. A human nurse and her nonverbal son are kidnapped and taken to work in a brutal asteroid mining facility where the alien of the title finds them and falls in love with her and her son. This is a heart warming series. Ms. Phillips is also mid series writing Alien Wolf Tales, which are a charming blend of fairy tale retelling and alien wolf shifters. The latest is Cursed Alien. Who doesn’t love a good genre mashup with a Happy Ever After ending?     AmazonKU

Alana Khan has an intriguing series happening with her Awakened from the Ice tales of gladiators frozen long ago and now reawakened to confront the modern world and of course fall in love. The concept is terrific fun and the books are great reads. The most recent is Victor, who finds himself in Las Vegas.     AmazonKU

Regine Abel continued her ever popular Prime Dating Agency series with I Married Amreth, where the human fated mate of an Obosian Hell Lord is abducted before he can protect her and he must get her back, even though they’ve never actually met.     AmazonKU

Ursa Dax is having a lot of fun with her Cowboy Colony Mail Order Brides series, with the sixth book coming in mid-July. The latest is Married to the Alien Mountain Man with this concept: “An alien mountain man longing for a wife, the human woman who crashes into his world, and the fake marriage of convenience that feels just a bit too real…”     AmazonKU

Tiffany Roberts released the long awaited, eagerly anticipated The Weaver (The Vrix Book 1), which is the next in their SFR world of nonhuman, spider alien males and their human mates. As the book’s blurb states in part: “She awakens fierce protective instincts in him and rouses a craving like he’s never experienced. He wants nothing more than to declare his feelings for her.” The romance in this series is unusual but powerfully written. The second book is scheduled to release in early 2026 but in the meantime you can always go back and read Ensnared: An Alien Romance Trilogy (The Spider’s Mate Book 1), where the spider aliens first appear.     AmazonKU

Cara Bristol just released the first book in a new series, which is also a new direction for her: Survival Instinct: A Post-Apocalyptic Romance. The concept is a human nurse and an alien battle for trust in a devastated world, which happens to be Earth after the aliens invade. Early reviews have been quite positive and she has more books planned for the series.   AmazonKU

As for me, I finally wrote an SFR set on a remote colony planet with zombies. Arrival (Planet of Last Resort Book One) tells the tale of an ex-Special Forces operator coming to the planet to start a ranch, a doctor coming home to serve her people and what they find when they land at the abandoned spaceport. There’s a Happy For Now ending and I plan on at least three more books in the series. I also released a new Badari Warriors novella, Darik’s Quest where he asks his goddess for help with the cause of his fraying mate bond and she sends him through time and space to the planet of the ancestors to find his answer. I also released Hainn, book 19 in the series where a Badari healer tries to help a woman traumatized by her treatment at the hands of alien scientists. There’s extreme surfing in this one since Hainn is a member of the South Seas pack bad boys.    Amazon

I wish I had room to update the status of all the many wonderful and talented SFR authors in our community but hopefully this sample will provide an excellent start. Happy reading!
