VS Note/Update: I turned KIERCE, book 7 of my scifi romance Badari Warriors series, in to the editor, so it’s looking good for a March release. Now I’m worked on an ancient Egyptian paranormal romance, the much requested sequel to LADY OF THE NILE, which will tell the story of Nikaire the Medjai and Merneith the harpist.
Tuya, a high ranking lady-in-waiting at Pharaoh’s court, lives a life of luxury, pageantry and boredom. Khian, a brave and honorable officer from the provinces temporarily re-assigned to Thebes, catches her eye at a gold of valor ceremony. As the pair are thrown together by circumstances, she finds herself unaccountably attracted to this man so unlike the haughty nobles she’s used to. But a life with Khian would mean leaving the court and giving up all that she’s worked so hard to attain. As she goes about her duties, Tuya struggles with her heart’s desires.
When Tuya is lured into a dangerous part of Thebes by her disgraced half-brother and kidnapped by unknown enemies of Egypt, Khian becomes her only hope. Pharaoh assigns him to bring the lady home.
Aided by the gods, Khian races into the desert on the trail of the elusive kidnappers, hoping to find Tuya before it’s too late. Neither of them has any idea of the dark forces arrayed against them, nor the obstacles to be faced. An ancient evil from the long gone past wants to claim Tuya for its own purposes and won’t relinquish her easily.
Can Khian find her in time? Will he and his uncanny allies be able to prevent her death? And if the couple escapes and reaches safety, what of their fledgling romance?

VS Special Note: I want to give a shout out to The Passage Series by Justin Cronin. The first book was originally published in 2010 and now has been made into a FOX TV series. So far (I’ve seen two episodes) I’ve enjoyed the debut of the TV series but of course they’ve stripped down and hugely simplified this very lush, complicated set of books and completely left out the intriguing mysticism which is a major underpinning in the novels. They’ve changed some characters quite a bit from the books. The book series is post apocalyptic dystopian, a viral vampire story, has major time jumps in the narrative both backward and forward and covers about 30 years in the lives of the main characters. Well, more years than that for Amy and some of the others…it kind of defies explanation. It did remind me somewhat of Stephen King’s The Stand. I just know I recently reread all three books and became immersed in the story all over again. Cronin is masterful at how he pulls the threads on even tiny details to pay off years later. I’m left not happy with how life turns out for some characters, okay with the fate of others and happy for some, which is par for the course for a huge, sprawling epic. (Not a romance at all, did I mention that? Although there are some mild romantic elements in a few places.) If you haven’t read the series and are at all intrigued, go for it!
VS Note: Just wanted to point out I had an In the Stars Romance title on my backlist too, which would actually be book 2.5 in my Badari Warriors series. Can be read as a standalone. It’s fun to be part of the awesome author group at In The Stars!
