Firstly, the two of them are serving on the same ship, and the Imperial Navy has a strict no-fraternization policy. That’s an easy one to overcome, Lucas uses his influence to have her transferred off the ship and manages to upset his love interest in the process. Then there’s the problems with Imperial Security, terrorists interrupting a romantic getaway, and the biggest of all, the fact that she’s a foreign spy! And he thought Gizel led an interesting life! Veronica’s Note (2016): I was excited when Linnea Sinclair invited me to contribute a story to Dealer’s Choice…Who could refuse a chance to be in an anthology with one of the scifi romance greats? The story had to revolve around a casino and although I have a gaming establishment on the ‘A’ deck of the Nebula Zephyr from the STAR CRUISE series, the story that came to mind was a play on the Old West tropes. A gunslinger rides into town, gets involved with the local troubles despite his best intentions, and ends up defending the dance hall girl. Or in this case, the retired Special Forces operator heading home gets stranded on a remote space station, gets involved with the local miners’ troubles and…yup, there’s a dance hall girl!
2024: This is also the first time I mentioned the generational billionaire Kumisarc family and there’s a member of the family in my next book STAR CRUISE DREAM DANCER, which will be out this April.
