A fun way to sample new books and find new writers! Here’s the link to the Weekend Writing Warriors central page, so you can visit all the participants sharing excerpts today…
Continuing with the excerpts from MAGIC OF THE NILE…ok, (takes deep breath)…we’re jumping ahead two wonderful weeks with lots of good things happening, up to and including Tyema and Sahure spending their first intimate evening together, having dinner in her quarters and ending up in bed. (The annoying scribe and most of the staff have been sent off to another convenient festival in the village. Your author at work!) At some point after the lovemaking,, Sahure is speaking:
“Although I hate to cloud a perfect evening with business matters, I should tell you I’ve been recalled to Thebes – Pharaoh has a new assignment for me, or so the orders indicate.”
Tyema sat upright, clutching the sheet. Hearing his news, she felt as if he’d thrown cold water over her. Why didn’t he tell me this before? “When do you leave?”
He sat up too, kissing her shoulder, “I go to the capital tomorrow and depart for Thebes from there – I have to brief my uncle the Nomarch on my findings, get his seal on the report.” Lazily he reached out to snag some grapes from the bedside table, “I want you to go to Thebes with me.”
Since this is about page 33 of a 229 page novel, you can guess a LOT of things will be happening to them separately and together before the eventual HEA. Because this conversation doesn’t go well….
Question: Do you want one or two more excerpts from this scene or shall I just leave it there (the book is available LOL)? I’m ready to switch off to excerpting the new science fiction romance that’s coming in August…but I’ll let the majority rule here.
As always, I love your comments and feedback. Although this is a published work, the input helps for the future novels…
Here’s the story blurb for MAGIC OF THE NILE:
The standalone sequel to Priestess of the Nile…picks up about fifteen years later and tells the tale of Tyema, who was the younger sister in Priestess of the Nile…
After a childhood spent scorned and ignored by her family because of her crippled foot, Tyema was magically healed then installed as the High Priestess of his temple by Sobek the Crocodile God. But Tyema is still haunted by her memories, scarred by the abuse she endured. Despite Sobek’s protection, as an adult she’s become a near recluse inside the temple grounds…
Until Captain Sahure arrives in her remote town, sent from Thebes on an urgent mission for Pharaoh, requiring High Priestess Tyema’s help. From that moment on, her quiet, safe life is upended in ways she never could have expected.
But after a whirlwind romance with Sahure, the two part as Pharaoh orders him to undertake another assignment on Egypt’s dangerous frontier, far from Tyema’s remote town.
Heart-broken, Tyema is ready to return to her life of loneliness, official duties and, now, regret. But the Crocodile God has other plans for his priestess: she must uncover the sorcerer who threatens Pharaoh’s life with black magic. Soon enough, Tyema finds herself thrown into the chaos of Pharoah’s court, neck deep in intrigue and danger. Just when she thinks she can’t take the pressures of a very public court life and her secret investigation for the Crocodile God any longer, Sahure re-enters the scene.
But is her former love there to help or to hinder? Can they resolve their differences and work together to find the dark sorcerer who threatens Pharaoh and Egypt? Will the love between a proud warrior and a shy priestess lead them to a future together?

Since I have Magic of the Nile, I’d vote for the new one.
Thanks, SueAnn, and a big HUG!
Nice excerpt. If you’ve a new book coming out soon I’d love to see some of it soon. 🙂
Great scene! On the one hand, I’d love to see your descriptions of Thebes, but I’m also intrigued about the sci-fi (since that’s where my focus has been lately). I’ll vote for the latter.
Veronica, I vote with the other fans. Move on to your new book and thanks so much for the wonderful snippets.
Good 8. And you prolly already know which way my vote is being cast. I’m ready for some Veronica Scott scifi/rom! 🙂
I’d be happy with something new too, only because it’s fair to buy Magic of the Nile if I want to know more. And I’ll be doing that in the near future!
I hope you’ll enjoy the entire book, thanks for the lovely comments!
*smacks him upside the head* Seriously?! I can see where this is going;). Great snippet to end on. I vote for sci-fi, too.
He really expects her to drop everything at the temple and follow him? What a typical guy. I’d love to hear her response but as others have said, I can buy the book. Bring on the SF!
So, he waited until he got what he wanted and then broke the news? This is not going to end well 🙂
No indeed! To say the least…
Oh-oh major argument coming and with good reason, too! I say bring on the SF. I’ll miss these guys but they’re on my TBR pile anyway 😉
Thanks, that’s so lovely of you to have my book in the TBR list!
He doesn’t quite get certain aspects of her position—or her personality—does he?
I bought Magic—LOVE IT—so I’d enjoy seeing some of the SF book I’ll be buying next month. 😉
Thank you, Sarah! I’m so glad you;re enjoying the book, I really had a good time writing this story. And it’s very nice of you to be anticipating the new book 🙂
liked this 8. I can’t wait to see if she agrees to go with him.
Oh, I bet she goes with him. Intriguing 8 and full of possibilities. As for choosing book you’ll showcase next week… I love this one, but I wouldn’t mind a sneak peek at your SF book. 🙂
Fantastic cover. Love the snippet. My daughter has an archaeology degree, so I’m kind of enamoured of things Egyptian.
Thanks, I have my covers done by Frauke at Croco Designs and I think the world of her. Yes, I’ve always loved ancient Egypt too, although I do take liberties in my novels, since I’m not writing pure historical romance!
He doesn’t exactly give her a lot of time, does he? What is he thinking? Oh, he’s a man. Guess that explains it.
Exactly LOL! He does get a lecture from the Royal Wife later in the book, sort of fondly informing him he was an idiot at this point…but he can’t put her advice into action for quite a while.
As I intend to read the book as soon as I finish the reviews I promised to do, I vote we do the new one. I have loved these excerpts.
Oh boy, that was a bonehead move…little turkey.
Love their chemistry. Very interested in seeing the new scifi work 😀
Oooh I love this. The cover art is great too! I think you should do another snippet from this section so I can get a taste of how she reacts!! is the book available on amazon??
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, the book is on Amazon…the vote today seems to be for excerpting the new science fiction romance next week, but there are older snippets from this book on my blog. Best wishes!
Okay, I read the excerpt before reading your note. I was like wait, how did we jump from Sahure trying to feign disinterest to what appears to be a scene with them in bed XDDDDDDD Sorry, I should read the A/N first :$
*flails* This is so cute :3 Sounds like he’s really devoted to her. Hmmm, at this point it’s hard to tell what Tyema will decide. I feel like she’s definitely torn between her duties and her affection for Sahure. If I had to pick one, I think I would say she’s going to stay at the Temple. I’d like one to two more excerpts from the novel :$ This one makes me so happy.
Come with him? As if she doesn’t have a really important job, that she undoubtedly can’t leave for long periods of time?
That’s pretty thoughtless of him.
I’ve enjoyed these snippets, and now its time to buy the book. Although you are marvelous at this time period, I’m a bit curious about your sci-fi too!
History Sleuth’s Milk Carton Murders
Ah, a cliffhanger! I do want to know how the conversation ends, but I guess I’ll just have to read the book 😉 I’ve enjoyed these, but I would love some snippets from your sci-fi!
Y’know, perhaps if he fed her some of those grapes naked she could consider his offer. 😉 Fantastic excerpt! I’d love to see some snippets from your August release!
Love the snippet. And, I’ll miss this story. I love the descriptive way you write, but I’m also intrigued, like everyone else, about the SF. So bring it on!
Wonderful interaction. Such a powerful statement at the end!
He makes it sound so easy for her to leave her responsibilities. Great snippet, Veronica. 🙂
I can understand why this conversation doesn’t go well, good 8
I feel like this conversation might not go too well… This was a really interesting 8 sentence snippet! I’d love to read more 🙂
He didn’t exactly pick the best time to break this news! I hope she agrees to his offer.
I’ll also miss seeing excerpts from this story, though I’m voting for moving to the SF story.
IMO, since the purpose of #8sunday is to introduce people to our work, and you’ve done that with “Nile”, and it’s out anyway, I would say go on to the SF. But I love me my Ancient Egypt, so I am torn! Sorry, not much help here.
I enjoyed your snippet. I support your decision of switching to a different story if you want. Like Gibbs would say “Follow your gut.” 🙂
Keep smiling,
Yawatta
I like this snippet. It sounds like more than usual visit when he asks her to come along. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I’ve been as busy as a teacher the week before school starts.
