I’m continuing on with my latest release, Star Survivor for another week or two. I’ll have a new release soon! (Blurb for Star Survivor below the excerpt.) Twilka and Khevan are on the run, trying to evade other assassins, since the Red Lady has a kill order out on Twilka. The couple are in a bad area of town, waiting for their friend Nick to arrive. Khevan continues to make light of his wound while Twilka worries.
“I’ll be fine – if I could call upon the Red Lady, I’d have been healed already.”
“Right, she’s the answer to all your problems. Except when she’s not. Or when she tries to kill you. But you persist in running back.” The room featured only a bed and the bare essentials of a bathroom behind a sliding panel. After discarding the bloody towel in the bathroom, Twilka picked a spot further down the wall from where he lay on the bed, sat on the floor, and pulled out her AI, reviewing her designs to take her mind off the situation.
“Pretty,” he said a few minutes later, “With an edge. They all remind me of you.”
She whisked the designs out of view, into the file, and set the AI aside. “You’re a fashion critic now?”
So excited, got a great review for the book from Dear Author! SQUEE!
My new book is still with my editor so I’m not sure what I’ll excerpt next week. We’re going to start running into serious spoilers if I go too much further into Star Survivor. But we’ll see.
The story:
The survivors of a terrible wreck meet again—but this time only one can survive.
They survived an iconic spaceship wreck together. She never expected to see him again … especially not armed to kill her.
Twilka Zabour is an interstellar celebrity. She built on her notoriety as a carefree Socialite who survived the terrible wreck of the Nebula Dream, and launched a successful design house. But now the man who gave meaning to her life, then left her, is back–this time for the worst of reasons. Will he kill her … or help her survive?
D’nvannae Brother Khevan survived the Nebula Dream in the company of a lovely, warm woman, only to be pulled away from her, back into his solitary life in the service of the Red Lady. Now Twilka’s within his reach again–for all the wrong reasons. Khevan will do everything within his power to discover why Twilka has been targeted for assassination, and to save her.
But Khevan is not Twilka’s only pursuer. Will allies Nick and Mara Jameson arrive in time to aid the couple, or will Khevan and Twilka’s ingenuity be all that stands between them and death?

Great review, Veronica. I love this interplay. While they’re on the run, they still have moments to learn more about each other.
Although you description was simple, I can picture their surroundings. You made your words do a lot of work.
Haha! Snarky little thing, isn’t she? <– I mean that in a very good (entertaining) way. Fashion critic, indeed–he makes a great one–and he kills people on the side. 🙂 What more could a girl ask for?? 😉
Are those sparks? Yes, I definitely think they are. 😉 Great snippet. Love those last lines between them.
Snarky, indeed. He’s bleeding and has time to check out her work. A sense of humor at another moment of danger. Hugs and 5 stars to my friend.
Read it! I enjoyed this book, and I liked being able to see the Red Lady for what she really was. Khevan is in a tight spot for sure.
Nice edgy exchange. Just what’s needed here. Can’t wait for more . . .
Khevan should have never mentioned the Red Lady. That just put Twilka even more on edge. Great snippet! 🙂
Ah – he does care about her.
Aww, he just can’t seem to say the right thing, can he? 🙂
Wow, that turned lighter at the end.
Congrats on the awesome review!
Loved this excerpt. She’s a firecracker, that one. He called you pretty! Focus on THAT part of the sentence. lol
Great excerpt! i just jumped in and that excerpt already told me a lot in a small amount of words. Great writing! And congrats on your review!
Great snippet! I love her concern and how (of course) he’s brushing it off. Congrats on the review!
There’s definitely a spark there. He can’t be in too much pain if he can talk about her designs. Congrats on the great review.
Sounds like he wants her to know he’s interested in more than her designs. 🙂 Congrats on the Dear Author review.
Good snippet! Nice review. 🙂
Ha! Yep, he’s a fashion critic now. Loved that. And yes, why does he keep running back to the one who tried killing him?Nice snippet.
There are definitely sparks flying, no matter how depressing their surroundings!
Great snippet! The sparks are there even in their current predicament.
Love the snarky banter. lol
Congrats on the great review. Always a bright spot in the day. 🙂
I love the snarky remarks between them. Good snippet, Veronica. 🙂
Nice bit of banter. Congrats on the review!
Congrats on the review. I love the line about being a fashion critic.
A fashion critic, love it! I like their chemistry.
Hmmm, a little secretive about the designs. What’s she afraid of, i wonder? That he’d trash them or tease her. Maybe this will actually break the ice. Nice snippet!
lol – love the last line – fashion critic. Tweeted.
Those are some very big excepts. She has a point!
On bed; two strong personalities….it’s going to be a smooth night. I’m sure of it. =)
I don’t think she was expecting him to look at her designs — and I don’t think she’s happy that he did and commented.
Great review …. interesting snippet. i liked their interaction.
