If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors books, here’s the background:
Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.
The excerpt – skipped ahead a little from last week. Keshara has taken shelter from the storm in an abandoned furbana den (like a beaver lodge but bigger):
…a new sound penetrated her hearing: engines running at top speed, unregulated. A moment later, the ground shook as a considerable mass crashed into the earth not far from where she sat. For a few heartbeats she sat frozen, debating which course of action to take. She could stay hidden in the furbana den or she could go investigate. Better to know what’s happening close by than to hide. From her first days of life Keshara had been an independent person, preferring to take challenges head on and today was no different. All part of the adventure. With no more hesitation, Keshara pulled her rain garb over her head and crawled out through the tunnel her unwitting and fortunately absent hosts had dug. Staying within the confines of the well-built, reinforced entrance, she peered through the driving rain, but at first there was nothing to see. Then the downpour cleared for a heartbeat and she glimpsed a broken aircraft lying crumpled in the meadow.
From the outside dwellers.
We’re getting to the point where she and Gabe first meet…
The blurb for GABE: Gabe Carter, hotshot pilot and ex-Special Forces soldier, is far from his home in the human Sectors, kidnapped by alien scientists to be the subject of horrifying experiments. Shot down by the enemy over desolate territory far from his Badari allies and gravely injured, Gabe’s only hope is a mysterious woman on the run herself.
Keshara has to decide whether to abandon the human to die of his injuries on a windswept mountain top or give up her own quest for freedom and take him to a place he can be helped. The undeniable spark between them complicates matters.
His attraction to her is off the charts but when she betrays him to the Khagrish enemy, Gabe doesn’t know what to believe. Trapped inside an alien lab bursting with mysteries and lies, his only hope may be to trust her…again.
Because the renegade alien scientist running her own private experiments wants to use him to accomplish her goals and perpetuate the evil, no matter what she has to do to ensure his compliance. Keshara’s life hangs in the balance and Gabe has to make a choice.

Now that she knows what made the nouse, I’m curious what she’ll do next. Will she investigate further? A very intriguing snippet!
A plane crashed just outside? That’s a big deal indeed.
I love how you set the scene. Your descriptions are always so good and vivid.
Sometimes it might be better to stay hidden, though. Maybe not this time. What is she going to do now?
She shows her vulnerability and courage as she goes out to check on the noise.
Certainly an adventurous woman! Now, she’ll have to investigate.
Question is – friend or foe? And is it just co-incidence or where they out looking for her?
Great build up . . . then you leave us hanging? You minx!
(Minx is one of my favorite words LOL!) Well, you know, sentence limits and all…but we’re getting to the moment she and Gabe will meet and both be very surprised by what they see. Thanks for visiting!
Brave of her to face the elements and discover what the noise was – now she has to step up her game and check out the plane.
Tweeted.
Whew- she’s brave! Though I kind of wonder how big a furbana is if they build a den large enough for a human to hide out in.
Now that she knows about the plane what will she do? Nice place to cut off the excerpt.
Sounds like she’s going to go for it. I wonder if she has any weapons, or just her intelligence and courage. And you say this is close to when she and Gabe meet. Was this his plane that just crashed?
Also Merry Christmas, Veronica! 🙂
Now that she knows its a plane, what will she do next? Intrigued to know if she’ll investigate. I have a hunch she will. 🙂
Nice set up. I vote for getting in out of the weather and investigating when the storm lets up. LOL
