If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors books, here’s the background:

Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.

The excerpt – follows directly after last week’s where Keshara says not all the Khagrish are the mutual enemy, implying there might be some good ones…

Her answer surprised him, and a small alarm sounded in the back of Gabe’s head. He refuted her remark firmly and with no doubt, “Every single one I ever met.”

“You may be surprised,” she said, stretching and then sitting straight, “Try to sleep now, if you can. The hiking tomorrow will be hard going for a man with your injuries. I’m not sure how far we’ll have to go before we meet those who’ll be tracking me.”

“You’re a fugitive?” He didn’t know why the fact surprised him. Based on his experiences on this planet so far, any Badari not in captivity would have to be on the run. On the other hand, she clearly was from some facility unlike any other known to his allies or himself.

“Of sorts.” She settled more comfortably against the wall of the den and drank from her water bottle, “I committed no crime, except for leaving the Retreat – we’re not allowed to roam.”

His suspicions, ever close to the surface on this hell world, flared anew, “You’re not planning to turn me over to the Khagrish are you?

gabe badari warriorsThe blurb for GABE: Gabe Carter, hotshot pilot and ex-Special Forces soldier, is far from his home in the human Sectors, kidnapped by alien scientists to be the subject of horrifying experiments. Shot down by the enemy over desolate territory far from his Badari allies and gravely injured, Gabe’s only hope is a mysterious woman on the run herself.

Keshara has to decide whether to abandon the human to die of his injuries on a windswept mountain top or give up her own quest for freedom and take him to a place he can be helped. The undeniable spark between them complicates matters.
His attraction to her is off the charts but when she betrays him to the Khagrish enemy, Gabe doesn’t know what to believe. Trapped inside an alien lab bursting with mysteries and lies, his only hope may be to trust her…again.

Because the renegade alien scientist running her own private experiments wants to use him to accomplish her goals and perpetuate the evil, no matter what she has to do to ensure his compliance. Keshara’s life hangs in the balance and Gabe has to make a choice.

  1. A reasonable concern. Sounds like they both have many secrets. I wonder how much they’ll reveal in order to gain the other’s trust. As always, a great snippet!

  2. Intrigue and mutual suspicion all round! Nicely done.

BTW – I am finding WordPress blogs seem to be more and more often hosting adverts that hijack your browser and drag you off to another site. This happened while entering this comment, and some weeks on WWW it happens 2 or 3 times in the course of my visits. Not sure what to do, other than maybe place a call to WordPress support saying visitors are complaining about bad adverts.

  3. It sure seems like he should be suspicious of her. According to Gabe & his friends, a good Khagrish is a dead Khagrish.

  4. I very much doubt she’s thinking of turning him over to anyone. But I also think she does have a plan. Can’t wait to see what it is.Great snippet! So intriguing!
