If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors books, here’s the background:

Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.

The excerpt, which follows directly after last week’s–

“He was being chased by the Khagrish in a flyer,” Keshara added when it was plain Gabe struggled to form further words because of his worsening injuries.

“You bring them down on our heads as well?” Ashla stood over him, balancing her knife, “Immediate execution for you both should be the penalty. And I’m happy to act as executioner of those who threaten our peace and safety.”

Keshara’s blood ran cold but the threat was idle, at least for now. The Director wouldn’t forgive Ashla killing another Badari woman without a direct command to do so, and she held the First Daughter’s figurative leash tight.

Gabe choked out what he obviously hoped were extenuating details, “Wait a minute, lost them in the storm. No sign of them since.”

“I believed it was best to bring this matter—and him—to the Director,” Keshara said truthfully, “These humans are unknown to us but, as you hear, he speaks our secret language, he knows some of our customs. We need to understand this new development and if he could be useful to the Director and her research.”

Has Keshara betrayed Gabe into the hands of the  enemy?

gabe badari warriorsThe blurb for GABE: Gabe Carter, hotshot pilot and ex-Special Forces soldier, is far from his home in the human Sectors, kidnapped by alien scientists to be the subject of horrifying experiments. Shot down by the enemy over desolate territory far from his Badari allies and gravely injured, Gabe’s only hope is a mysterious woman on the run herself.

Keshara has to decide whether to abandon the human to die of his injuries on a windswept mountain top or give up her own quest for freedom and take him to a place he can be helped. The undeniable spark between them complicates matters.
His attraction to her is off the charts but when she betrays him to the Khagrish enemy, Gabe doesn’t know what to believe. Trapped inside an alien lab bursting with mysteries and lies, his only hope may be to trust her…again.

Because the renegade alien scientist running her own private experiments wants to use him to accomplish her goals and perpetuate the evil, no matter what she has to do to ensure his compliance. Keshara’s life hangs in the balance and Gabe has to make a choice.

  1. There are so many unknowns for me after reading this snippet. I’m so curious as to what happens next, what their fate will be. Great snippet!

  2. Ashla is a little too trigger happy. Glad Keshara called her bluff. When you wrote about Ashla killing a Badari woman, I got the feeling there aren’t that many of them. All to Keshara’s benefit.

  3. They’re safe for now, but there’s this director to be wary of. I like that hint of foreshadowing.

  4. They might not be heading for immediate execution, but I can’t see Ashla backing down easily. She seems more the “thorn in the side for some time” type. Here’s hoping the Director isn’t in agreement with Ashla on what their fates should be.
