If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors books, here’s the background:
Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.
The excerpt – Here’s where we left off:
Coughing from the acrid smoke drifting in the air, she stared at the flyer’s cabin. “We’re on fire,” she said, feeling stupid and slow and incapable of motion.
New excerpt:
“Not yet,” the man in the litter said, “But soon. Get yourself loose or die, lady.”
Gemma stared at him, trying to process the words. Her mind was fuzzy. He was still strapped into the antigrav litter, which must have saved his life by countering the effects of the crash to some extent. Wondering why he wasn’t fighting to get himself loose, she fumbled with the buckles, too woozy to remember how the mechanism worked until by sheer accident she hit the right place on the latch and fell with a jarring thud to the floor, which had been the ceiling. Checking on the women who’d been seated next to her, she saw at a glance the first was dead, eyes wide and staring, her neck at an impossible angle. There was no sign of the guard but the back end of the shuttle was missing, the remainder a contorted tangle of metal and wires.
Moaning sounded from the front of the shuttle, where the cockpit had been, and she took a step toward the flyer’s bow.
“Save yourself,” the man in the litter said, “The Khagrish wouldn’t help you if the situation was reversed.”
The blurb:
Dr. Gemma Madarian is far from her home in the human Sectors, kidnapped along with hundreds of other humans to be used for horrifying experiments conducted on a remote planet by alien scientists.
She and another prisoner, Camron of the Badari, are the only survivors of a deadly crash landing. She’s paired up with the genetically engineered soldier by their mutual enemies and sent fleeing through rough country, hunted for pleasure by an enemy officer and his ferocious trackers.
The enemy wants a triumphant kill. Gemma and Camron want to survive.
Camron never dreamt of having a mate but Gemma shatters his preconceptions and makes him desperate to do everything in his power to save her life and claim her for his.
There’s no help or refuge to be had in the desert where they’re fleeing for their lives.
Or is there?
Will Camron and Gemma live to fight another day and explore the growing attraction between them, or will ancient secrets and bitter rivalries end their bid for freedom?

New to my award winning Badari Warriors series? There’s a box set of the first 3 books!
There’s no new material included, other than a brief recap of why I wrote each book (which appeared in previous blog posts) But I thought it was time to put the books together!
This is intense! Is she going to listen to him or help him?
I suspect she’d doing a better job of keeping her wits about her in a crash situation than I would. You’ve got me wondering what role the man will play in this story.
Well this is Camron so he’s going to play a major role in the events 🙂
Hopefully they’ll both be able to save themselves.
Oh gosh, she’s in quite the dire situation. I wonder if she will leave everyone else behind. Great snippet!
Hopefully she won’t take his words quite so literally until she helps save him as well. Always better to survive with a partner! Great snippet!
Wow–the pacing in this snippet is incredible! Well done. 🙂
No snippet for me this week. 🙂
Great description of her confusion.
That’s a horrifying situation to find oneself in! You always paint such vivid pictures with words.
Now there’s the impossible situation – save yourself or save the enemy.
Tweeted.
Oh man, this is a crazy snippet, I can’t wait to know more!
Very intense scene. She’s a doctor. She has to save people. She’d better save Camron first.
I love the description of her confusion. That’s the way it would be in a real accident. I’m betting she’ll try to save the Khagrish.
What a scene! You pulled me right into the story. The man is sure cool and collected after the crash. I’m curious to know if she’s going to help him escape too.
An intense and vivid scene; and I feel she will try to help the pilot, enemy or not.
Oh wow … quite an intense scene!
