If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors series: Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.

The excerpt, continuing on from where I stopped last week:

She had no idea who had saved her—the others were running down the corridor toward the main building and the exit to the outdoors. Mandy knelt by the lab tech who was now clearly dead, grabbed her ID card, whispered, “Thank you,” and then moved along the hall.

The cell a few doors in the other direction also held a few people and she fumbled with the controls while the desperate occupants screamed at her, begging and imploring her to let them out. “I’m trying to remember the sequence,” she said, rubbing her forehead where a headache pounded, “Please just shut up.” Closing her eyes she struggled to recreate what symbols the tech had touched and then she entered the short sequence of taps on the colored keys.  The barrier made the same nasty buzz and flickered completely out of existence.

Mandy was bowled over as the prisoners pushed their way out.

She sat down, being dizzy and not thinking clearly. How long she sat, she had no idea but then someone was shaking her.

She opened her eyes with much effort, to see a woman who’d been in her cell, thrusting a water bottle at her, “Here, take this and drink slowly. It’s every person for him or herself but I figured I owed you.” Her reluctant benefactor rose to leave and Mandy grabbed the leg of her jumpsuit.

“What’s going on? What did you see?”

He decides to risk everything to take his mate away from it all for a few days. But will the Khagrish, the threats lurking in the planet’s unexplored wilderness and the Badari goddess allow them to complete A Honeymoon for the Alpha?

landonAnd of course LANDON is still new!

The blurb: When unexpected circumstances give her a chance to escape from an alien scientist’s lab after she’s been tortured, Mandy Rennegar knew she should run for the hills with the other prisoners. There’s one more special captive who hasn’t been freed, however, and she decides to risk everything to help him. Mandy’s not leaving anyone behind.

Captured by the enemy on a scouting trip, Landon of the Badari has been pushed beyond his limits of sanity and strength by the Khagrish experiments and waits to die…until the human woman sets him free and takes him into the wilderness with her on a desperate trek to freedom. If he could only regain his memory, he’s sure there’s a sanctuary on the planet where his people could help them both.

As Mandy and Landon flee the pursuing Khagrish new challenges arise, including secrets from the past which could destroy the growing attraction between them. Difficult choices have to be made, putting Mandy’s life at risk and Landon discovers the Khagrish have left a lasting mark on his mind.

Will they reach the Badari sanctuary in time? Can their love survive Mandy’s revelations? Will the Alpha of the Badari give them a chance to be together or will he allow her to die when Landon risks everything to save his fated mate?

  1. They’re free, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t danger ahead. Very realistic in how most would leave her behind even though she let them out. Great snippet!

  2. You depict the utter chaos well as it swirls around Mandy. I’m actually worried that she’s experiencing some kind of ill effects from her captivity–dizzy, not thinking clearly, headache. Hope this isn’t the case! Great snippet!

  3. People in a panic don’t realize the effects of their actions. Example, her being trampled by the people she released. Will anyone help her? Great snippet.

  4. The excerpt shows the panic and chaos of the captives’ exit. I’m glad one of them helped her.

  5. That every person for himself stuff is scary. I think you’ve shown well what a good person she is. Nicely done! I could sense the panic in the scene as they all ran to escape their vile captors!
