VS Note: I LOVE her cyborgs! Had this pre-ordered.
This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her. *** Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.
His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration. He wants her. He also seeks retribution. Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently. Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them. The being she has damaged the most is also the cyborg she fiercely desires— Malice, a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed C Model with massive hands and a voice deeper than space. He hates her, has good reason to do so, and, when he’s freed, there’s a high probability he’ll kill her. Illona will take that risk to ensure he survives. Containing Malice is a STANDALONE enemies-to-lovers Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.

When King Khrelan gets word of a group of human women held captive on a trading planet, he decides to send a team to rescue them—led by the hotshot pilot, Druxik. I’ve never considered myself particularly brave or daring, so I’m as surprised as anyone when I find myself volunteering to join the warriors on their mission. As frightening as it is to be heading to a dangerous black-market planet, it gives me a sense of purpose. But with our close proximity aboard the ship, it also becomes harder and harder to deny my attraction to Druxik. I know it can’t be the mate bond. And I know letting myself fall for him will only end in a broken heart. But when disaster strikes, everything changes in the blink of an eye. Mate bond or no, Druxik needs me, and I’ll do everything I can to help him.
She’s had to run for her life. He’s one of those chasing her. Now, if they could just catch their breath long enough, they could fall in love. Lottie has escaped a fearsome beast only to be cornered by, well, a fearsome beast. Except, this one is not only afraid of the dark but devastatingly handsome as well. It’s a shame that she will return home only to discover that she is to be married to someone else via the Vikingr mail order bride system. Geiv was not expecting to fall for the human hottie on a routine trip to Earth. He was there to collect lindworms, not dates. However, he just can’t help falling for Lottie—that is when she’s not trying to escape him. He thought they had something too until he returned home to discover that Lottie has been promised to another. Can they find a love loophole before it is too late?
She’s a fast food worker from New York. He’s an alien king looking for a new pet. It’s a match made in… oh no. At first, being abducted on her way to work seems like a lucky break to Katie. Swept off her feet, and then off the planet by a muscular winged king who wants to pamper, protect, and procreate with her, she’s the luckiest girl in the universe.
But the king’s love comes with, well, not strings. More like chains. And collars. And leashes. And expectations of obedience, and submission. And…Well. Anyway. Beats working for tips, right?
I thought I’d escaped being given to an alien warrior. I was wrong. I was one hour away from washing out of the Alien Bride Games. None of the Khanavai warriors had chosen me, and I was scheduled on the next shuttle off the filming station. But then a bright red alien passed me in a hallway—and the next thing I knew, we were all over each other.
Bad enough that my name had been drawn in the Bride Lottery. Now, even though they’re supposedly over, I’m back in the Games. And not the usual ones, either—a whole new set of challenges, just for me. Guess it’ll make for good television back home. I just hope I can resist him long enough to get back to Earth, to the people I love. And that I can keep him from learning my most desperate secret. The odds aren’t looking good, though.

The South Asian Province is split in two. Uplanders lead luxurious lives inside a climate-controlled biodome, dependent on technology and gene therapy to keep them healthy and youthful forever. Outside, the poor and forgotten scrape by with discarded black-market robotics, a society of poverty-stricken cyborgs struggling to survive in slums threatened by rising sea levels, unbreathable air, and deadly superbugs. Ashiva works for the Red Hand, an underground network of revolutionaries fighting the government, which is run by a merciless computer algorithm that dictates every citizen’s fate. She’s a smuggler with the best robotic arm and cybernetic enhancements the slums can offer, and her cargo includes the most vulnerable of the city’s abandoned children.
When Ashiva crosses paths with the brilliant hacker Riz-Ali, a privileged Uplander who finds himself embroiled in the Red Hand’s dangerous activities, they uncover a horrifying conspiracy that the government will do anything to bury. From armed guardians kidnapping children to massive robots flattening the slums, to a pandemic that threatens to sweep through the city like wildfire, Ashiva and Riz-Ali will have to put aside their differences in order to fight the system and save the communities they love from destruction.
Being probed by aliens was only the beginning…I was abducted by incompetent aliens. They didn’t know what they were doing and they still don’t have a clue. Now that we’re done with all the probing, they’re taking lessons in ‘Caring for Vulnerable Females’ and ‘Nest Building for Beginners’ and want to turn me into their mate. And no, they don’t listen when I tell them I don’t need a nest. In theory, I could fall for these three hunky aliens who can bring me more pleasure than I ever dreamed of, but we’re being watched and analysed every minute of the day. A creepy professor from the Intergalactic University uses us as examples for her lessons, sometimes with dangerous consequences, and there’s nothing we can do about it. I don’t want to be a science experiment, but can I resist falling for the aliens who stole me from Earth?

But it leads them all the way to Bachanalius, a planet devoted entirely to the production of all kinds of alien adult entertainment. Undercover as “actors,” can Cassie and Stone keep their partnership intact? Will making naughty vids together bring them closer together…or drive them apart entirely? VS Note: Reviews have been somewhat mixed on her last two books I listed but there are readers who enjoy her tales so here’s the new one. (I haven’t read any of hers myself but did read the Look Inside and liked the ‘voice’.) This one apparently answers some of the questions reviewers had after book one.
Mavis –Being promoted to detective in the New Hope Protectorate Bureau was an achievement I was proud of. It had taken a lot of hard work and dealing with a lot of sexism, even in this day and age. I loved my assignment to Illegal Imports and Exports Control at Huachuca Landing Field, a small spaceport terminal on the grounds of the former military post from the pre-Drowned World days. A fair bit of the old post was now underwater and had been among the first of the cleanup efforts our alien friends helped us accomplish. This meant I got to enjoy scuba diving and sailing the pristine waters of Huachuca Bay while not busy checking imports of and exports for contraband. Imagine my surprise when I’m assigned to help track down the missing District Commissioner and the group of underground bunker folks that made it off-world after the killing that shocked the world. No one had even known that this bunker had existed until recently…(MUCH more blurb on ebook seller page…)

VS Note: Not a romance but a scifi release of note. I’m tempted by this one so it’s on my TBR. My father was an engineer on the Saturn 1B and the Saturn 5 rockets, we lived in Huntsville where the German scientists ended up (years after they arrived though LOL) and Dad met Dr. Von Braun a few times. I also like the “women who make progress…” tag line!

VS Note: Nonfiction but the kind of thing I’m fascinated by and a release of note this week.
In Four Lost Cities, acclaimed science journalist Annalee Newitz takes readers on an entertaining and mind-bending adventure into the deep history of urban life. Investigating across the centuries and around the world, Newitz explores the rise and fall of four ancient cities, each the center of a sophisticated civilization: the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük in Central Turkey, the Roman vacation town of Pompeii on Italy’s southern coast, the medieval megacity of Angkor in Cambodia, and the indigenous metropolis Cahokia, which stood beside the Mississippi River where East St. Louis is today. Newitz travels to all four sites and investigates the cutting-edge research in archaeology, revealing the mix of environmental changes and political turmoil that doomed these ancient settlements. Tracing the early development of urban planning, Newitz also introduces us to the often anonymous workers—slaves, women, immigrants, and manual laborers—who built these cities and created monuments that lasted millennia. Four Lost Cities is a journey into the forgotten past, but, foreseeing a future in which the majority of people on Earth will be living in cities, it may also reveal something of our own fate.

Hannah knows she has to fight on the side of good but she’s not certain their ally has anybody’s best interests at heart, and it has her faltering. Life has never been easy for Hannah but it’s harder than ever for her now. The magic she’s only recently discovered is taking hold … and growing. That makes her an appealing target for the sister witches should they want a stronger body to leap into. Cooper Wyatt loves Hannah with his whole heart but fear has gripped him by the throat. He will protect her with his dying breath, although she’s determined to make sure that’s not necessary. Ancient evil is about to take on a powerful new witch. Who will be left standing? It’s anybody’s guess.

I was taught my whole life about the importance of true mates, how when you find that one wolf for you, everything falls into place. Everyone who taught me that was a liar. When I found my true mate, happily ever after sure as hell didn’t start, but hell definitely began. I ran away, and now I’ve been searching for peace for weeks as I drive around the country. I didn’t mean to take the wrong road. I didn’t mean to make it to that small town. And I didn’t mean to meet two men, who set me and my wolf on fire. But here I am somehow, and peace is the last thing I’ve found.
And don’t forget about the serial killer.
Four lovers. Four species. One world to save?
The only thing better than having someone who loves you? Having four.
My memories returned and the horror of my mortal past confirmed, I can’t hide anymore. Not from the world, not from my feelings, and certainly not from the people I’m coming to call family.
But the world is growing more unstable by the day—the magical communities are picking sides and the humans are growing restless at the early signs of war—so it looks like it’s time for the Horsemen of the Apocalypse to come out of hiding. Damn it all to hell.
Look out world, Horseman of Magic is here!
Raven hadn’t meant to get involved with the dragon shifter clan. He’d gone with them mostly to avoid an angry dragon turning up on his doorstep asking where they were. Waking the future queen? Well, that was just a bonus. He hadn’t realised quite how complicated that would turn out. Worrying about his failing music career is a dim and distant concern when his life is on the line yet again.
All Fayrian ever wanted was to use her musical talents to entertain and to bring joy to her clan. Pity they’re at war, and her ability to fight is far more valued. When she’s assigned to protect and wait on the future queen, she hopes this might be her chance. If Rian clan won’t appreciate her music, maybe the queen’s Mesmer mate, the human musician Raven, might give her the opportunity she longs for. But sometimes, sacrifices must be made. The princess might not love Raven, but she does need him. As the war between the dragon clans heats up, with the queen right at the centre, Raven and Fayrian realise that music can’t solve their problems. Or can it?
He thinks you are the thief…Shyla is a researcher who resides in the underground desert city of Zirdai, which is ruled by the wealthy Water Prince and brutal Heliacal Priestess. Even though Shyla is sun-kissed – an outcast, considered cursed by the Sun Goddess – she is still renowned for uncovering innumerable archaic facts, lost artefacts, ancient maps, and obscure historical documents. Her quiet life is about to change when Banqui, an archaeologist, enlists her services to find The Eyes of Tamburah: legendary gemstones that bestow great magic on their wielder. These ancient objects can tip the balance of power and give whoever possesses them complete control of the city. But chaos erupts when The Eyes are stolen soon after they’re found – and Shyla is blamed for the theft. Forced to flee, with the Prince’s soldiers and the Priestess’ deacons on her trail, Shyla must recover the jewels and clear her name. A quest that will unearth secrets even more valuable than The Eyes of Tamburah themselves.
Sometimes the strongest chains are the ones we craft for ourselves. The Mid World defense system is finally ready to launch, but the millennia-old barrier of highly destructive ether must be removed first. To take down the old and make way for the new, Bix and her team race to locate and reassemble the pieces of the containment device scattered across the Mids. Alas, they’re not the only ones searching for the shards. In the wrong hands, the fragments are weapons of mass destruction. Fearful magical races and fearsome deities alike scramble to claim the pieces, but lurking in the ether are entities who will not go quietly…and who will stop at nothing to keep Bix from interfering in the burgeoning war. Darkness will fall and armies perish when manacles break from the shackled spy.

If she doesn’t, the kingdom will eventually languish… and disappear forever. However, as Lily digs deeper into the mystery behind the endless winter, she finds the truth is a lot more than she bargained for. When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic. But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever. An owl with secrets…Or so Constance thinks. She’s having trouble convincing anyone else otherwise. When two bodies are found on the vineyard property, Constance and Dave make a startling discovery. The timeline of the two deaths is off… by a few decades. The first died a whole lot more recently than the other. Dave unearths—literally—a cold case from decades past, which only brings more questions. Is someone using necromancy to do their dirty work? And can Constance and her friends stop them before they become the targets? It’s the holiday season in Creel Creek, Virginia. And it’s full of mystery, romance, and surprises.
I didn’t know when I wrote the first love spell that it would actually make things happen. Like, actually make people fall in love with each other…How could I have known something like that? I mean, magic isn’t real, right? But here’s the thing—the spell does work and so does the next one and the next one…and suddenly I’m getting a whole lot of attention from everyone at my high school. Me, Blend-into-the-Walls, Please-Let-Me-Introvert-in-Peace Rowan Marshall. And not only that, but I’ve also caught the attention of Luca Russo, a godlike, football-playing hottie who claims he likes me just the way I am. Ummm…But as I’m about to learn, playing around with things you don’t understand means when things go wrong—like really, very awfully wrong—you don’t know how to fix them.

VS Note: Next on my Badari Backlist is the novella Honeymoon for the Alpha. Jill and Aydarr were the main characters in book one of the series (Aydarr) and because their situation was so intense – prisoners in the lab at the mercy of the Khagrish for much of the book – they never really got to have as many tender moments as some of my other couples have enjoyed. They’re very much in love and of course there were a couple of bedroom scenes but….so I really wanted to revisit them specifically and give them a respite from their cares as the Supreme Alpha and his mate, and time just to be together. I am also totally in love with the cover that Fiona Jayde did for me!
HONEYMOON FOR THE ALPHA: Thrown together as helpless prisoners in the punishing conditions of a Khagrish lab, Jill and Aydarr fell in love. Claiming each other as mates despite only having one night alone in a cell, they formed a deep, loving mate bond. Now, a planetary year later, after escaping the lab and leading the ongoing rebellion against the enemy together, Aydarr longs for more. He wants a chance to show Jill how much she means to him. He decides to risk everything to take his mate away from it all for a few days. But will the Khagrish, the threats lurking in the planet’s unexplored wilderness and the Badari goddess allow them to complete A Honeymoon for the Alpha?
LINKS TO RECENT NEW RELEASES POSTS from Veronica:
“New” is generally plus or minus a week or two. I try to catch up on ones I missed in recent months. And I may mention ‘special items’.
I do NOT cover every single new release in SFR/FantasyR/PNR. I never have. That would be an impossible task for any human! I assemble my list by hand every week based on various informal inputs, and I do curate the list to some extent…
Some authors aren’t in KU but still don’t list books with Apple or other platforms. This report is very time consuming to prepare so I’ve always had to limit myself and cannot go and look up every book on all the platforms. If an author gives me their other buy links, I include them here but generally I develop the post on my own, not from author-supplied information. I curate and prepare this post individually every week to help connect readers/books/authors and I have to be very careful not to give it so much time as an activity that I don’t write my own novels! Thanks for the feedback and happy reading!
I check and verify all the buy links at the time I create the post but after that I’m not responsible.
