Orders? Weekend Snippet

I’ve switched to my new release, NARIO, which is a scifi romance and the latest in the award winning Badari Warrior series.

Starting at the beginning of the book…the excerpt, skipped ahead a little bit from last week when Nario found himself fascinated by a human woman in the camp he and his men were about to collect and take to Sanctuary Valley:

A bit shaken, Nario fought to disengage from his preoccupation with this one human and return to the mission parameter of capturing the entire group without incident. If she was indeed the woman who could be his goddess-sent fated mate there’d be plenty of time to get to know her and to woo her once they were all safely in Sanctuary Valley. He anticipated the prospect with enthusiasm because not all Badari were blessed to meet a prospective mate but those who did couldn’t say enough good things about becoming one of a pair, within the larger pack. Truth be told, he felt a bit of pride to have found his today. Of course the woman had to choose and it would take time but then if she did fall in love with him, they’d eventually share a golden mate bond.

Orders? Faine’s mental ‘voice’ held no trace of impatience or disrespect.

He was again grateful to the senior soldier for recalling him to the task at hand. Carefully Nario inspected the camp below and saw nothing unexpected. Move in, he broadcast to his entire squad. As planned, avoid injury to the humans at all costs. They aren’t the enemy unless they make themselves so.

He and his men moved along the ridge through the woods soundlessly. All of them had apex predators of one sort or another entwined in their DNA and hunting was as natural to them as breathing. When the squad was in position and ready, Nario stepped from the brush, blaster at the ready and strode into the camp boldly, which is the way he preferred to handle the situation. Not for him the sneaky but safe approach of hitting the humans from cover with stunners and scooping up their helpless bodies.

The humans gaped at him and several made moves as if to go for their weapons.

“I wouldn’t do that,” Nario said calmly. Half of his squad made themselves visible, making it clear the place was surrounded. “We have your sentries under control already.”

NARIO: A BADARI WARRIORS SCIFI ROMANCE (SECTORS NEW ALLIES SERIES BOOK 16) by Veronica Scott

What starts out as a simple mission to rescue a group of lost humans turns into a nightmare for pack enforcer Nario, as he’s captured by the enemy scientists and plunged into an unprecedented journey to their home world for unknown experiments.
No Badari has ever been to the Khagrish planet but Nario vows to find a way to save himself and the others taken with him. The situation takes on additional urgency when he realizes one of the human women in the group is his fated mate. Aliana Ridley was a historian in the Sectors, traveling from world to world to record significant events when she was abducted by enemy aliens and destined to become a subject in unimaginable experiments. Now she has to rely on this fearsome, genetically engineered soldier to help her escape their captors and find a way home. She agrees to pretend to be his mate to fool the scientists but soon finds herself experiencing emotions she never expected to have with a man who’s handsome but not human. Will Nario find a way to escape the enemy’s grasp and get them all safely back to the Badari planet? Author’s Note: This is a complete story for the two main characters, ending with their HEA. There is a cliffhanger situation unresolved in the book for a pair of secondary characters, which I’ll resolve in the next book in the series.
