VS: This week I’m featuring MISSION TO MAHJUNDAR from my backlist. This was loosely inspired in part by THE FAR PAVILIONS by M M Kaye, and the poignant situation of a man escorting the woman he loves to her arranged marriage, as well as by one of my best friends in college, who was blind. I learned so much from her about what’s possible in life! She was a great influence. There was also an evocative photo of a sandswept, abandoned temple in the desert and an ad for a perfume (I no longer remember the name) with a mysterious woman…In my early scifi romances I crammed a LOT of plot into each book – this probably should have been divided into a duology, based on the events I covered.
MISSION TO MAHJUNDAR
An attempted assassination left Princess Shalira blind as a child and, now that she’s of marriageable age, her prospects are not good because of her disability. She’s resigned herself to an arranged marriage rather than face life under the thumb of her cold stepmother.
