Sharing now from my newest scifi romance  Jadrian (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 3.

Punctuation may be wonky to comply with our guidelines here. May be edited a bit from published version.

The excerpt:

As a toughened combat veteran, Jadrian of the Badari wasn’t subject to anxiety, but he had to admit moving through a Khagrish lab, and even worse a Khagrish prison block, brought up bad memories. He’d spent time as a younger man undergoing their tortures, kept in isolation from his pack, and the experience had left its scars on him.

The smoke bothered his eyes and lungs less than it might other beings, but it didn’t make for a pleasant environment. He and his teammates swept hastily through the place. The records indicated no human prisoners were kept here, and the force barrier doors had gone down, so it was a quick step into each cell space, checking the corners for any occupant then moving on. Purely an effort to be thorough.

Two Khagrish guards charged into the corridor from the far end, and Jadrian and his teammates scattered, taking cover where they could, returning fire. A cut off scream from the direction of the enemy indicated Jadrian or his compatriots had hit their targets. He grinned fiercely. The Khagrish bred the Badari to possess uncannily powerful vision, even in obscured environments, and now the aliens’ cleverness was coming full circle to bite them.

Next week Jadrian and Taura will meet…

jadrianThe story:

Taura Dancer has been pushed to her limits by alien torturers known as the Khagrish and is ready to die when suddenly the lab where she’s held as a prisoner is taken down by an armed force of soldiers.

The man who rescues her from a burning cell block is Jadrian of the Badari, a genetically engineered alien warrior with as many reasons to hate the Khagrish as Taura has. This set of shared past experiences and the circumstances of her rescue create an unusual bond between them.

Safe in the hidden base where Jadrian and his pack take her, Taura struggles to regain her lost memories and overcome constant flashbacks during which she lashes out at all who come near. Only Jadrian can recall her from the abyss of her visions and hallucinations.

As the war against the Khagrish continues, it becomes increasingly critical to find out who she really is and how she can help in the fight. Until she can control her terrors and trust her own impulses, Taura’s too afraid to pursue the promise of happiness a life with Jadrian as her mate might offer.

When he’s captured by the dreaded enemy, will she step forward to help save him, or will she remain a prisoner of her past?

Sharing now from my newest scifi romance  Jadrian (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 3, which released this past week. I decided we’d reached a good place to leave Mateer. Sorry!

Punctuation may be wonky to comply with our guidelines here. Edited a bit from published version.

Starting off with the first ten sentences of the book:

Taura crouched in the corner of her small cell, fists clenched, ready to attack the next person who came into her space, be it Khagrish scientist, lab tech or security guard. Today was her breaking point – she felt the emotion viscerally. She couldn’t endure another procedure or test. No more physical or psychological pain at the hands of the uncaring aliens. She glanced at the black bracelet affixed to her wrist and snarled in rage, like the penned animal she’d become under their torture. Maybe this time she could force them to kill her, and her awful existence would finally end.

Where were her captors? Why wasn’t anyone coming to drag her off to the next horrific ordeal? Now that she was ready to fight them to the death? To relieve her tension and unkink her muscles as she waited, Taura rose and paced the none too generous length of the cell.

We’ll meet the hero next week…

This is the third book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

The excerpt:

Movement helped her manage the tension but her mood remained on the knife edge of panic.

Gradually, she became aware of strange noises outside her cell, loud booms and the sound of pulse rifles firing in staccato bursts. As grey smoke drifted down from the vent above her head, she moved cautiously along the wall to the edge of the force barrier confining her. There was nothing to be seen in the corridor, other than eddies of smoke. An alarm blared but cut off suddenly.

Was the facility under attack? Had the Sectors finally come to the rescue of their kidnapped citizen? Not likely. Maybe her enemies had their own enemies, though, which might work to her advantage.

Coughing, she covered her face with her arm and croaked out a plea for help. “Here, I’m here!”

Death by fire was a terrifying idea. Her heart raced and her breath came in short gasps, as she couldn’t pull enough air into her chest.

Her head swam from panic and the lack of oxygen.  How ironic, to die with help possibly now at hand. My timing always sucked.

Shapes moved in the corridor, obscured by the smoke which had grown thicker. Her vision swam, blacking in and out.

Taura found herself face down on the cold cell floor.  I must have passed out for a few minutes.

Rising to her knees shakily, one hand on the wall for support, she opened her mouth to yell at whoever was passing by. Surely even the Khagrish wouldn’t be so cruel as to leave her here, trapped in a burning building?

“Please,” she said, inaudible even to herself as she collapsed to the floor.

“Cover me.” Darik, the team leader, sprinted ahead, laying down suppressing fire just in case. “All clear, both dead,” he yelled a moment later. “We’re done here, time to regroup with the others and blow the place.”

“One more cell to check.” Jadrian turned to the right.

“Hurry it up, there’s no one here, just as the records indicated.” Darik’s clipped tone indicated his impatience to rejoin the rest of the strike force and complete the assault on the installation.

I can’t take the chance of leaving anyone behind. Even his leader’s annoyance couldn’t keep Jadrian from making sure there were no prisoners.

Sharing now from my newest scifi romance Mateer (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 2. Yup, a mouthful LOL!

This excerpt follows directly from last week’s.

The Khagrish are the evil alien scientists holding kidnapped human prisoners for experimentation. Dr. Lampergg is the head of the lab. Mateer is a bioengineeered warrior created by the Khagrish.

The ‘Jill’ they’re talking about was the heroine of book #1, AYDARR.

Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry! Slight differences from the published version, to fit the rules here.

Mateer is speaking.

The excerpt:

“I admire your courageous attitude, given the perilous situation,” he said, face lighting up in a grin for a moment, “All right, since you insist on details, both of your sisters are fine and free in a safe place, but whatever you do, don’t mention you’re related to Jill.”

Megan literally couldn’t breathe and her heart thumped extra hard at the welcome but unexpected news her siblings weren’t prisoners, weren’t being tortured or experimented on. Thank the Lords of Space.  His odd, blunt warning caught her attention next, “Why ever not? What do the Khagrish care who my sisters are?”

Mateer settled back, “She escaped by assaulting the scientist in charge of the labs. Lampergg, the Khagrish directing the operation here, was like a son to Gahzhing, who ran the lab where we were held captive. Gahzhing might even be dead for all I know. Lampergg would be likely to take his anger at Jill out on you.”

That’s my big sister all right, take the fight to the enemy.

mateerThe Blurb:

Megan Garrison, a doctor at the Sectors Amarcae 7 colony, goes to sleep one night as usual only to wake up in her nightgown, strapped to a table in an alien lab, destined to be the subject of terrifying experiments. Granted a brief reprieve, Megan and the other kidnapped humans are released in the middle of a forestlike enclosure on this unknown world and told to survive as best they can for now.

Her only hope is Mateer, the genetically engineered alien warrior imprisoned with the humans. He knows more than he’s sharing about this planet, their captors and the fate of other humans, including perhaps her own sisters. Turns out everyone from her colony has been kidnapped by the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the human-led Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.

Mateer, a tough Badari enforcer, now a rebel, is captured while infiltrating the lab to help his pack bring it down. He’s also been ordered by his leaders to search for Megan and save her life at all costs. Tortured by the enemy, he’s offered one chance at survival – convince Megan to become his mate and assist the Khagrish with further experiments.

As the situation at the lab grows worse, Megan struggles against her deep attraction to Mateer, while she does her best to shield the other humans from the terrible Khagrish experiments. For his part, Mateer knows she really is his fated mate and despairs of being able to keep her safe, as the rebel attack is delayed and she fights the truth of their bond.

Will they be able to work together to defeat Khagrish plans and preserve human lives until the promised rescue happens? And what of their future together – will Megan accept Mateer as her true mate, or walk away if she’s freed?

I’ve moved ahead again, to when Mateer first wakes up, outside in the Preserve, where the humans have been placed to fend for themselves for a time. Megan saved the injured and unconscious Mateer from execution by insisting the humans carry him with them.  Before he woke up the aliens referred to him in her hearing as ‘802’. All the prisoners are forced to wear a neurocontroller bracelet. Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry! Slight differences from the published version, to fit the rules here.

The excerpt:

“So you are from this planet? How did the Khagrish capture you then?” She stopped, “Please, you must have more of a name than ‘802’. I’d like to know what it is and how you came to speak Basic.”

A visceral anger roiled his gut at the hated numerical designation, and he glared at the damn sensor bracelet. He’d sworn never to be put back into bondage, and now here he was. “Mateer.” His voice was more of an intimidating growl than a properly conversational tone, but he couldn’t bear to hear Megan refer to him by his serial number.

“Your name is Mateer?”  She gave him a fleeting smile, “I have so many questions, and I know you must as well.” Leaning toward him and lowering her voice, she said, “Where did you meet my sister? Is she—is she alive?”

I’ve moved ahead again. The humans have been placed in the Preserve, a huge outside area of the lab,  to fend for themselves for a time. Megan saved the injured and unconscious Mateer from execution by insisting the humans carry him with them. Apparently pleased by her reaction, the alien scientist Dr. Lampergg gave her an antigrav litter  to transport Mateer. Now the humans are marching somewhat aimlessly to find shelter. Walt is a human who’s helped Megan before during this captivity. Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry! Slight differences from the published version, to fit the rules here.

The excerpt:

Walt peeled away from the column and circled back to her.

“Are you going to lecture me about my foolish choices too?” she asked, pushing her hair off her face. The day was warming rapidly as the sun approached its zenith. Her throat was parched and she had so many worries her mind was buzzing, “Or how to play mind games with Lampergg?”

“Not at all,” He fell into step beside her, “Rescuing their other prisoner was a brilliant move.”

“Why?” she asked,“Because it made Lampergg happy I did what he obviously wanted?”

“Because this man knows a lot more than we do. Clearly, he and the Khagrish have a past relationship so if he regains consciousness and if he’s willing to talk to us, we might glean a few facts we can use.” Walt glanced at the people ahead of them, “I’m not too sure you want to share anything you might learn from your patient with the entire group.”

“Only with you?” she said drily.

I’ve moved ahead again. The alien scientist in charge, Lampergg, has ordered the humans taken outside. Mateer, who has been undergoing torture in a separate area, is brought to join them for the first time, but has passed out from the severe treatment. The excerpt:

“We’re setting you free for a while,” Lampergg said, making an expansive gesture toward the horizon, “Fourteen days to be exact. I expect you to explore the area, show us how capable you humans are of surviving in the wilderness, and get acclimated to the planet.” He grinned, “See if there are any holes in our perimeter – I’ve heard it said your species is quite clever. You will take him with you during this experiment,” the scientist said next, pointing at the injured prisoner, who lay unmoving.

Harker shook his head and objected loudly, “Man’s literally dead weight. We’re not going to carry him – Why should we? He’s nothing to us.”

“I’ll have him executed right now where he lies if you don’t.” In response to a signal from the scientist, a guard stepped to the invalid and rested the lethal tip of his pulse rifle against the man’s skull. Raising his bushy yellow eyebrows and running his gaze over the assembled people, Lampergg said, “What manner of beings are you humans?”

Outraged, Megan confronted Harker, “We can’t leave him here to be killed in cold blood – we have to try to help him.”

Sharing now from my newly released scifi romance Mateer (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 2. Yup, a mouthful LOL!

I’ve jumped ahead again.  Still in the cell, a day or two later. The evil alien scientist Dr. Lampergg has unexpectedly sent a new group of prisoners to join the humans already imprisoned with Megan. The newcomers are quite ill from the way they’ve been released from stasis. Harker is a blow hard human prisoner with whom Megan, who’s a medical doctor, has already had one run-in. Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry!

The excerpt:

Megan moved, helping another man limp with her toward the center of the room,“I need supplies to treat these people,” she said over her shoulder to the guard, “Please.”

“Dr. Lampergg has sent you an allotment,” The guard gestured and a robo drifted into view, carrying a container Megan hoped was full of the promised medical necessities.

Harker stepped forward, “I’m in charge here, and I’ll take those.”

Mouth open in disbelief, Megan glared at him, “Those are for the people suffering.”

“Might be more useful for those of us who are already recovered,” he said, “Give us extra energy and calories lacking in the junk they’re feeding us. Besides, some of the sick are too far gone anyway.”

Anger burned through her body in a sheet of fire, “And giving them the right energy bar might save them – who the seven hells do you think you are?”

Walt interposed himself, “Lampergg sent the supplies to Megan and he’s the guy in charge – am I right?” he asked the disinterested guard.

“I’m to give them to the one you’ve named as being a doctor,” the Khagrish said, “What you do with the bars after I leave isn’t my concern. I will tell you Dr. Lampergg doesn’t react well to his orders being disregarded.”

Sharing now from my newly released scifi romance Mateer (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 2. Yup, a mouthful LOL!

I’ve jumped ahead again.  Megan and the other humans are taken to a large bunkroom-style cell and left alone. As they all eat, she ponders which people she can trust – some seem too willing to help their captors if it will get them better treatment. Walt, a man unknown to her, seems like a good guy, however. Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry!

The excerpt:

Megan lingered at the table after dinner, treating raw scrapes one of the women had gotten on her wrists while restrained.

Walt walked up, a box in his hand, “We have first aid type stuff, figured you ought to have it, doc.”

“How can you tell what an alien first aid kit looks like?” The prize was revealed to be a standard—if cheap, low end—Sectors first aid kit, taken from a freighter perhaps. “Better than nothing,” she said with a smile, “I hope I’m not required to remove anyone’s appendix while we’re here.”

Walt sat down, “I wonder how many other humans have been through this place.” He took in the spartan furnishings and the drearily painted walls and floor, “The room appears unused, like most of this facility we saw on the way over here  but the existence of the prisoner we encountered earlier implies there are problems in their system, escapees maybe.” Raising one eyebrow, Walt leaned close, “Did he really speak gibberish to you?”

Megan stammered, “It was—um, he said—”

Walt patted her hand, “Never mind. I like your discretion.”

Sharing now from my newly released scifi romance Mateer (A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel): Sectors New Allies Series Book 2. Yup, a mouthful LOL!

I’ve jumped ahead again to the moment when Mateer and Megan first meet, as prisoners in the Khagrish lab. Punctuation a bit wonky to meet our rules – sorry!

The excerpt:

The klaxon cut off abruptly and a door at the far end of the corridor burst open with such force it hit the other wall as a squad of guards raced down the hallway toward where Megan stood. They were escorting an antigrav stretcher and, as the security detail went past her, she realized the soldiers were transporting a prisoner. The guard in charge of her unit stopped the leader of the squad and asked him excited questions in Khagrish. She eyed the captive, pitying him – a big man, he was obviously wounded, bound hand and foot and strapped to the litter as well.

They must be scared of what he can do if he gets loose. She wished she could help him in some way, but the guard’s last violent reprimand had made her cautious. As she stared at the prisoner he opened his eyes and blinked hard, trying to get his bearings. His gaze met hers and his eyes opened wide as he whispered a single word, “Lily?”

Megan recoiled at the sound of her twin’s name, wondering where and how this man had seen her sister. Transfixed by the intensity of his regard, she couldn’t look away, holding her breath, waiting for him to say more.
