Born in space. Raised as a pet. I’ve never allowed myself to even dream of love.Lyra –I’ve never worn clothes, held a fork, or made a decision. When my old master dies, I’m put up for auction and sold to the highest bidder. I expected my life to continue as it had always been—kneeling at my master’s feet. Instead, I’m told I’m now free. I should feel grateful, but I’m terrified of being alone. Maybe if I’m good enough, my new master will decide to keep me. When I dig deep and discover the well of my own power, I have a burning desire for something more than freedom–I want Vartan. I’m going to do whatever it takes to seize my new dream. Vartan – My quest in life is liberating slaves. When I see a human female up for auction, I purchase her in order to set her free. Imagine my surprise when she doesn’t want freedom but requests to stay with me instead. Through my ignorance, I damage things between us. To make amends, I vow to help her discover herself and unlock her deepest desires. I ache for this female. How can I let her go when it’s our destiny to share our heart connection?
Should she? Scarlett Tun desired the charismatic assassin from the moment she set eyes on him. Relationships weren’t her thing but she could definitely spend some quality time with the new and very sexy addition to their friend group. If only he didn’t put up such a hard fight. He shouldn’t.
Resisting the beautiful medic who made her interest known wasn’t easy. Everything about Scarlet drew Amar Faason. If it were anyone else, he would have succumbed at the first wicked smile, but she was friends with his peers’ bond mates and Amar didn’t mix his personal life with his professional. Ever. Then the unimaginable happened and with Scarlett’s life on the line, Amar soon realizes he’d rather have Scarlett in his bed and heart then worry about things going wrong. Besides, his inner cat claimed her as his mate and only a shifter fool walked away from that gift.
She’s promised to another—but the moment I saw the beautiful alien and her future mate I knew we were meant to be together. My name is Luna, and I’ve been running the day-to-day operations of the Centauri Brides program since Chancellor Athene and Director Zaroq began it, choosing human females to become the mates of dominant alien warriors building their new home on a faraway planet. My trip to Centauri was a bonus from Chancellor Athene, a chance to see the new world I’d played a pivotal part in creating. When I arrived the colony was abuzz. Felice, the sole female off-world when Arythios was destroyed, had just been rescued by a passing starfreighter. A pilot, she’d been driven off course by a galactic storm and crash-landed on a minor planet in Vector Three. With her ship’s communication system destroyed, the Arythian Starfleet had given her up for dead. Drago the sexy alien warrior she’d planned to mate with, was ecstatic. His beloved had returned from the grave. When I was invited to the feast to celebrate their new life together I never dreamed it would be the beginning of a new life for me too. Felice made no secret of the fact that she was attracted to me that night. Neither did Drago. As for me – maybe there was something in the air on Centauri. Or maybe it was that Arythian tea I drank. All I know is I found both of them wildly sexy. They invited me to join them. I did. And discovered my destiny.

But when they were forced to land on a planet infested with dangerous beasts, the last thing they thought they’d find was their human mate. The Syndicate governs the humans, and its leader, Joren — a former Marine sharpshooter — oversees it all. Distress Signal: Captain Carter Therres doesn’t know what to expect aboard the Maelstrom, but it sure as hell isn’t the gorgeous man waiting in the maintenance ductwork. Ash Mracek’s past involves something much more sinister than the Academy bombing for which he was framed. Now it’s a race to save Ash before their enemies can take them out of the picture for good. Morgan Reid is a gun for hire, but when his latest contract comes through, he breaks both of the rules he’s always kept: never mix business with pleasure, and never make eye contact with the target. Silent Running: Jordan Sawyer, the pilot, is focused, determined, and smarter than she lets on. Which is why Eric Kane wants her so much. Major Kyle Cortez has set his own sights on Coriolis’ curvy pilot as well. It’s up to Jordan to get them all on the same page. Or bed. Either works. The perfect place to enlist a group of former Marines and set up a base of operations. The trick is to do it without alerting anyone — including the criminal residents of Geren — that Joren’s still alive.

Lucas: Sure, my life isn’t going exactly according to plan—I have a degree that led nowhere, a crappy job as a closing-shift barista, and an ex who has everything I want and got it . . . by dumping my sorry ass—but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to give up on living yet! An Anthology of Recent Queer Science Fiction and Fantasy from Award-Winning Editor Paula Guran – Speculative fiction imagines drastically diverse ways of being and worlds that are other than the one with which we are familiar. Queerness is a natural fit for such fiction, so one would expect it to be customarily included. That has not always been the case, but LGBTQ+ representation in science fiction and fantasy—in both short and long form—is now relatively common. Even so, most of the queer science fiction and fantasy anthologies published in the last thirty-five years have been narrowly focused: specifically gay male or lesbian (or, more recently, transgender) themes, or all science fiction or all fantasy, or adhering to a specific theme or subgenre. Far Out: Recent Queer Science Fiction and Fantasy, on the other hand, features both science fiction and fantasy short fiction from the last decade and includes characters, perspectives, and stories that span the rainbow. With stories from incredible authors ranging from Seanan McGuire to Charlie Jane Anders to Sam J. Miller, it’s an essential read for anyone interested in queer science fiction and fantasy. Locked in open war against the Divinity of Magic, Emaurria is in grave danger and, worse, divided at its core. The Houses see opportunity in a withdrawn king, and Rielle, Brennan, and Olivia fight to keep stability as they try to reach Jon, while Leigh finds himself damned and looks for the strength to save himself before he can save the world from the Rift. My three intended mates left me rejected, half-marked, and broken. Every wolf shifter dreams about her first night with her mates, but mine left me an outcast with the revelation that I’m really a hybrid. A hybrid between a wolf and what is the question. Only my late mother knows the answer, but these days, I have other things to worry about. Namely, being caught in a war between my gorgeous jerk of a boss and the hunter who’s somehow become my enemy with benefits. There’s no time to dwell on the past. Until the consequences of my incomplete mating mark leave me in physical anguish each full moon, that is–and the only thing keeping the monster in my veins at bay is the dark gift of a vampire lord who thinks I’m something else entirely. Something that makes me more dangerous than anyone could have imagined–especially me. Like I don’t have enough infuriating (but admittedly tantalizing) alpha males on my plate, now the three wolves who threw me away are back, trying to stake their claim now that I’m their only hope of overthrowing my unhinged father as regional alpha. If the men in my life don’t make up their minds soon, I’m booking a one-way ticket to an all-female island.

I’m a fairy godmother, turned vampire, assigned to protect a detective sergeant determined to wipe out my entire nest. That’s the TL;DR version, anyway. Born without wings, I was never considered suitable for the cushy assignments my compatriots scored from the high council. Instead, I mucked around on the low rungs of the ladder, taking piecemeal work that earned me a reputation as a Ms Fixit. But when a dead police officer (don’t ask) seeks my help to solve a murder, I find myself investigating a crime of paranormal proportions. A situation that’s not improved when I wake one morning sprouting a set of long-desired wings—vampiric in nature. Now the dead cop’s partner wants us to team up and investigate the very bats who turned me. If I don’t die in the hunt for justice, I might very well perish when he stakes my “bat-daddy.” I’m all for solving crime… just not at my expense. But if I don’t help, who knows what the man will get up to on his lonesome? Better the devil you know than waking up one morning with a wooden splinter through the you-know-what.
I don’t work for demons. I hunt them. And I promised my mom one thing before she was murdered: Under no circumstances, would I ever go near the high demons. But I’ll break that promise over and over again if it helps me avenge her death. When my only lead turns to ash in the middle of demon territory, I’m suddenly a dead witch walking. Violence in Samael’s club is an automatic death sentence… unless he can use you. And it turns out that the most powerful demon in the country has a use for little ol’ me. Demons are being slaughtered. His demons. And as a bounty hunter, it’s up to me to find out who would dare hurt his people. I’ve got two weeks to find the killer, and if I fail, I’m bonded to Samael. Forever. Samael’s certain that I’ll be his, but I’m not the kinda girl who risks her freedom for a demon. I’m the kinda girl who won’t let anyone get in the way of her vengeance— not even the Machiavellian control freak who thinks he can run my life. The problem? I’ve pissed the wrong people off. Now I’m the one being hunted, and someone’s coming for me with everything they have. But I’m never more dangerous than when my back is up against the wall. And I’m ready to come out swinging.
After nine excruciating months, I’ve finally escaped the prison of my lamp. To my great surprise, my long-awaited freedom introduces me to three drop-dead gorgeous shifters. The best part—Jeremy, Zachary, and Adam are my new masters. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. But if I’ve learned anything in the last nine months, it’s that nothing is normal. I’m between the menacing fae Prince who wants me and the lamp back, and wondering if the shifter trio are the rightful owners or thieves who stole it from the demon master. But anything is better than returning to the fae prince. Now all I have to do is not fall in love with my new masters. That would be bad, but what the Jinn Council doesn’t know can’t be wrong. Can it?

It started as a way to survive, but the thrill of the dance and the power I weaved soon became my addiction. My life in shambles, my pride’s the only thing keeping me alive, clothed, and moderately fed. Asking for help isn’t in my nature, but I soon find a safe haven and place to belong at The Tower. Three men offer me something I desperately needed and I find acceptance in their love. When the safety I found in my disguises runs out, I have to face the man who’d made me hide in the first place. Will I be able to find a happily ever after or am I doomed to always be trapped in a prison of my own making? The root of all sin is pride, but what if it’s the only thing that can save me?

Ellerie Downing is waiting for something to happen. Life in isolated Amity Falls, surrounded by an impenetrable forest, has a predictable sameness. Her days are filled with tending to her family’s beehives, chasing after her sisters, and dreaming of bigger things while her twin, Samuel, is free to roam as he wishes. Early town settlers fought off monstrous creatures in the woods, and whispers that the creatures still exist keep the Downings and their neighbors from venturing too far. When some townsfolk go missing on a trip to fetch supplies, a heavy unease settles over the Falls. Strange activities begin to plague the town, and as the seasons change, it’s clear that something is terribly wrong. The creatures are real, and they’re offering to fulfill the residents’ deepest desires, however grand, for just a small favor. These seemingly trifling demands, however, hide sinister intentions. Soon Ellerie finds herself in a race against time to stop Amity Falls, her family, and the boy she loves from going up in flames.
Everyone expects the king to rage at the suggestion that he find a new spouse to stand alongside–or better yet, replace–his beloved husband. Some might be planning on it, hoping to incite another conflict like what has plagued the country since the death of the last legitimate ruler. But to everyone’s surprise, the infamous Traitor King, Arden Canamorra, reacts to the suggestion with amusement, perhaps even interest. Decades of chaos ended with Arden’s ascension to the throne. But many in the oldest noble families want more influence over the crown–noble influence, that is. Not from the king’s lower-rank and somewhat rough palace guard husband, Mil. They don’t care that Mil is a hero who helped secure peace at Arden’s side, and that, at least among the common people, Arden and Mil’s love story is legendary. Mattin, however, is outraged. A librarian at the royal library and advisor to the king despite his relatively young age, Mattin deeply admires the royal couple. That they happen to also be incredibly attractive is something he very determinedly ignores. If Arden and Mil are going to marry again for political purposes–since Mattin is sure no new love could ever match their great passion for each other–he will at least find someone perfect for them. If thinking about it makes Mattin miserable, well, he ignores that, too. But the king and his husband seem less interested in meeting appropriate nobles and more interested in fussing over Mattin while making plans of their own. It’s a more complicated matter than an innocent librarian could have realized, with more at risk than just his heart. The most suitable consort might not be enough to appease certain nobles, but the most beloved might win over the entire country.

I’ve got one thing to say to the fated mate who wants to kill me: Bite Me. I can handle anyone who walks into my pub. Except him–the most powerful vampire who ever lived. The First. Dark, damaged, and hot as hell. He says I’m his one and only Vampire Bride, and that five years ago, I buried him alive. Obviously he’s crazy, because I don’t remember any of that. All I know is that if I want to escape his vengeance, I have to help him infiltrate a deadly secret society. I’m going to use the time to prove that I didn’t try to murder him, and that I’m not his Vampire Bride. Because if I am, he’ll kill me. But his wrath starts to falter as our mutual hate turns to heat. As the danger thickens, I start to wonder if he’s right. But whatever happens in the end, there’s no escaping our twisted fate.
I ended my life to protect Lucian from his enemies. It should have been the hardest decision to make, but it wasn’t. Now I find that Lucian kept even more secrets, deadly ones that threaten to destroy me. I thought I won the game that he and Katarina played, but he’s never stopped shuffling the pieces on the board. Even so, I’ve found peace in his violence and learned to accept my fate within his embrace. As our enemies are revealed, and worlds crashed down into ours, everything is on the line again. Could we survive his latest betrayal, or would it destroy us all? Lena wasn’t supposed to pay for my sins, but she did. I hadn’t intended for her to suffer the consequences of my actions. I’d put pieces into motion to give her back the things that mattered most to her. She may never forgive me when she learns the cost I paid or the decisions I made. The thing is, there’s no world where Magdalena isn’t mine. I’d do whatever it took to keep her, and I’d destroy worlds to ensure she stays with me.
At eighteen, my life should have ended with the last beat of my bleeding heart, but instead, a scorching press of lips ignited a mark that resurrected me into a world of shadows. Alas, my survival proves to be a curse. I’m thrust into a pack I’ve never heard of, where arrogant Alphas — with antihero tendencies, dominating chiseled bodies, and mysterious ranks — wrestle for control. I’m nothing here, and it turns out I beat death only to be rejected. I’m exiled and abandoned, left to die at the hands of whichever predator discovers me first. Only I’m found by the chief’s son, Alpha Killian — a man who carries the exact same mark as I. I’ve discovered a loophole, and instead of being slain by this cold, merciless man, he decides I’m a worthy gamble. My flesh is deserving of his tender caress, my lips soft enough for his dominating hunger. My body is strong enough to handle his punishments, while my shattered heart summons my hidden talents. I’m Killian’s secret weapon, but in order to survive, I have to promise him one thing: I must never be a submissive wolf again. Amazon KU

SPOILER WARNING: Although they left me with a gaping hole in my chest, Kian, Malix, and Frost did me a favor when they shattered our bond and left me alone in the mountains. For a moment there, I’d started to trust them. For a moment, I’d started to believe they could be changed—that I wouldn’t need to kill them to keep them from carrying out their dark mission. I’d started to believe there was something real between us. Then they reminded me, in the most visceral way possible, that they’re heartless monsters. Creatures made of shadow who don’t understand what it means to care for anyone. But when they betrayed me, all they did was even the playing field. Because sometimes it takes a monster to fight a monster. And I’m not sure I have a heart anymore either.

On top of this, Stariel’s magic is going haywire, and Hetta is struggling with her intensifying powers—and she might not be the only one affected. The High King might be the only one who can help, since he’s responsible for the fae returning to the Mortal Realm in the first place. If only they knew where he was. Amazon KU

VS: Next up in my backlist for the Badari Warriors is DARIK. He’s a pretty happy-go-lucky guy who gets thrown into a dire situation while on a solo patrol. I also put in a few nods to “Aliens” and “Puppet Masters” (the one by R. Heinlein) here and there because they’re among my favorite scifi tales. Darik is in for quite a time!
Nicolle James is far from her home in the human Sectors, kidnapped by alien scientists to be the subject of horrifying experiments. Her only hope might be a mysterious soldier she’d glimpsed outside the laboratory fence. She’d managed to sneak a few words of conversation with him when her captors weren’t watching but now the aliens were taking her inside the lab to begin the experiments.
Darik, a warrior of the genetically engineered Badari pack, is on a solo recon mission to check out a mysterious new lab high in the mountains. His orders are strict – do not engage. But when he has a chance meeting with the woman who might be his mate, he vows not to abandon her, orders or no orders.
Can he get inside an underground lab, find Nicolle and rescue her without getting captured himself? And when he learns the lab’s deadly secrets, can he get word to his pack about the new dangers?
Because the ruthless alien scientist running the experiments wants to get her hands on him too and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals.
LINKS TO RECENT NEW RELEASES POSTS from Veronica:
“New” is generally plus or minus a week or two. I try to catch up on ones I missed in recent months. And I may mention ‘special items’.
I do NOT cover every single new release in SFR/FantasyR/PNR. I never have. That would be an impossible task for any human! I assemble my list by hand every week based on various informal inputs, and I do curate the list to some extent…
Some authors aren’t in KU but still don’t list books with Apple or other platforms. This report is very time consuming to prepare so I’ve always had to limit myself and cannot go and look up every book on all the platforms. If an author gives me their other buy links, I include them here but generally I develop the post on my own, not from author-supplied information. I curate and prepare this post individually every week to help connect readers/books/authors and I have to be very careful not to give it so much time as an activity that I don’t write my own novels! Thanks for the feedback and happy reading!
I check and verify all the buy links at the time I create the post but after that I’m not responsible.
