If all has gone as planned, I’m coming home from the RT Booklovers Convention today so I won’t be able to make the rounds and comment on everyone’s post till later in the week.

The Lady of the Star Wind is an epic portal fantasy, which will be released after Star Cruise: Outbreak, in the May 2016 time frame.

Sandy and Mark have been transported to an unknown world. This snippet is from  quite a bit further in the novel, after they’ve left the mysterious mountain oasis, in the company of some new friends… Sandy, who picked up an odd stone key in the Oasis, was bitten by a snake named Sherabti, went into the green light with a woman unknown to her and now is sitting in a room she’s never seen before, with four women who seem to think Sandy is someone else…the Lady of the Star Wind…A new player, Haatrin, entered the chamber and scolded the Moon Sisters, after which an even more senior goddess, Nuet, arrived to scold them ALL and sent the Moon Sisters fleeing. Nuet is speaking – I’ve skipped a few sentences between last week’s snippet and today’s:

“….I will take Sherabti with me away from this world, as I ought to have done long ago. But she retained her fondness for the activities of mortals, which I’ll no longer indulge.” Nuet shook her finger at Haatrin. The goddess walked toward the door, no longer needing to guide her steps with the cane, which she cast aside. The wood struck the floor in a burst of purple and gold sparks, and Sandy gasped as the cane became Sherabti, the white snake, coiling sinuously for a moment.

Nuet was as youthful now as the Moon Sisters had been, in demeanor and appearance, and her robes transformed to shades of purple, from deepest amethyst to pale lavender, as if dye poured over the fabric. Masses of silver-blond hair tumbled over her shoulders.

Haatrin raised a hand. “And the mirror?”

This is the last excerpt from Lady of the Star Wind, until it’s released in May. Star Cruise: Outbreak releases this coming week, so I’ll be sharing a few excerpts from it going forward. Thank you for all the comments and feedback you’ve given me about this book! I’ve loved presenting the snippets…there is more to this particular scene but we’ve run out of time in my release schedule.

Nuet is speaking:

“This is not my concern, not my battle. Don’t entreat me to be involved.” The vehemence in her voice was powerful. “I’ve fought the chaos and the darkness here in my time, vanquished the evil I faced, and moved beyond to greater purpose.”

Haatrin inclined her head. “Understood. I’d no intention of reaching out to you. The Moon Sisters are young and heedless, as everyone knows. My comrades among the Elder Gods and I are well seasoned, ready to carry the battle to the enemy ourselves.”

“None may summon me from my refuge again,” Nuet said, “especially not those ridiculous children – I won’t be merciful if there’s a re-occurrence of this unwarranted situation. “

She saved countless soldiers in the wars … but does she have the weapons to fight an outbreak?

Dr. Emily Shane, veteran of the Sector Wars, is known as “The Angel of Fantalar” for her bravery under fire as a medic. However, the doctor has her own war wounds–severe PTSD and guilt over those she failed to save.

Persuaded to fill a seemingly frivolous berth as ship’s doctor on the huge and luxurious interstellar cruise liner Nebula Zephyr, she finds the job brings unexpected perks–a luxe beach deck with water imported from Tahumaroa II, and Security Officer Jake Dilon, a fellow veteran who heats her up like a tropical sun.

However, Emily soon learns she and Jake didn’t leave all peril behind in the war. A mysterious ailment aboard the Zephyr begins to claim victim after victim … and they must race against time and space to find the cause and a cure! Trapped on a ship no spaceport will allow to dock, their efforts are complicated by a temperamental princess and a terrorist–one who won’t hesitate to take down any being in the way of his target.  If anyone’s left when the disease is through with them …

The book is expected to be released on April 18th! You can Follow me at my Amazon Author Page or sign up for my newsletter here to stay up to date!

You Need The Mirror Weekend Writing Warriors

I’m really sorry I didn’t get around to everyone’s post last week to comment. Going to WonderCon threw my routine out the window. I’ll be making the rounds today, I promise!

The Lady of the Star Wind is an epic portal fantasy, which is undergoing formatting and will be released after Star Cruise: Outbreak, in the late April/early May 2016 time frame.

Nuet is speaking:

“The scales are not yet balanced and may tip either way.” Nuet stared at Sandy. “You’ll need my mirror. And yet the gift may not be enough.” Dropping Sandy’s hand, she stood tall, the vestiges of age dropping away like veils. Now she appeared luminescent, beautiful, compelling in a way that made Sandy want to fall on the floor and worship as the Moon Sisters had earlier. Locking her knees, Sandy refused to bend, fighting the compulsion to grovel. The Zhivanov family ruled, they didn’t make themselves subservient to others.

“You have the strength,” Nuet said, as if aware of Sandy’s inner resolve. “Can you apply it to the choices you and your consort make?”

The Mirror of the Mother is a key piece of the puzzle in this novel and this scene is the first time it’s mentioned….

The story:

Are they merely luckless lovers … or a legend come back to life?

Mark Denaltieri, ex-Sector Special Forces, has been hired by the Outlier Empress to rescue her granddaughter, Princess Alessandra, from kidnappers. Since the Empress once had him tortured and banished, she’s the last person Mark wants to work for. But he takes the job. He’ll save Alessandra, his first love, and discover why she didn’t speak for him when he desperately needed her. Then he’ll be on his way, finally free of his past.

Alessandra would rather her rescuer was anyone but Mark–after all, he let her believe he was dead all this time. But when the couple are forced to flee her captors by Traveling via a strange crystal globe, they find themselves in a lovely Oasis on a desert planet, the old attraction sizzling between them again.

They soon discover they are far from alone. The Oasis holds the entrance to another world, one in which the inhabitants are convinced Sandy and Mark are the Lady of the Star Wind and her Warrior, come to free them from an evil Queen.

Mark and Sandy must work together to unearth an ancient mirror, and crown the true king of this land.  Can they fulfill the prophecy of the Lady and her Warrior … and this time, will their love survive the test?

As My First Act Weekend Writing Warriors

The WIP is an epic portal fantasy, which is undergoing a final edit and will be released after Star Cruise: Outbreak in the late April/early May 2016 time frame. (NEWS: I have a blurb now! See below the excerpt!)

Sandy and Mark have been transported to an unknown world. This snippet is from  quite a bit further in the novel, after they’ve left the mysterious mountain oasis, in the company of some new friends… Sandy, who picked up an odd stone key in the Oasis, was bitten by a snake named Sherabti, went into the green light with a woman unknown to her and now is sitting in a room she’s never seen before, with four women who seem to think Sandy is someone else…the Lady of the Star Wind…A new player, Haatrin, entered the chamber and scolded the Moon Sisters, after which an even more senior goddess, Nuet, arrived to scold them ALL.

“…you’re dismissed, all of you. Having done your unthinking mischief, your presence is no longer desired.” Nuet waved one hand in a curt, shooing motion. “Be grateful I don’t choose to reclaim my domain here. I might hurtle your namesakes away from this world as my first act.”

Like children released from school, the Moon Sisters fled in a pack without backward glances, leaving Haatrin, Sandy, and Nuet, the crone.

Sandy studied her. Was it her imagination or did the woman stand taller, her spine not as bent? And her hair had definitely been a wild tangle of dull gray curls, but was now more silver blond, wavy rather than curly. The eyes were the same, deep and unfathomable, but the wrinkles surrounding them were now fewer, the cheeks rosier.

Nuet has more than one aspect, you see.

Here’s the long awaited story summary for LADY OF THE STAR WIND:

By the way, I worked with Cathryn Cade, The Blurb Queen, and she TOTALLY rocks at writing blurbs, which I’m not good at.

“I think this is all a mistake.” The key hung heavy around Sandy’s neck, and she wished Mark stood at her side.

“The balance of the universe demands correction of true mistakes.” The elderly woman slammed the tip of her cane on the floor for emphasis.

“I said we should let her die,” Tresa spoke boldly, “All the problems would be solved.”

Thunder shook the room as the crone spun to glare at her, moving faster than Sandy would have dreamed possible. “We don’t yet know the outcome,” Nuet said as the rumbles died away. “Haste only gets you in more trouble, youngest moon.” She raised a cautionary hand as Tresa opened her mouth. “Silence on your part would be well considered at this moment.”

Nuet has a lot more to say in this scene, so I’ll spend a few more weeks on it. Then I’m thinking maybe I’ll give you a teaser from STAR CRUISE: OUTBREAK, which I haven’t shared here at all.

Reaction Not As Expected Weekend Writing Warriors

Continuing with science fiction romance today. Here’s an excerpt from Lady of the Star Wind, an epic portal fantasy, which is undergoing a final edit and will be released after Star Cruise: Outbreak in the April/May 2016 time frame (fingers crossed that I can keep my schedule). I’m working with the awesome Fiona Jayde on a cover now!

Sandy and Mark have been transported to an unknown world after breaking the Globe of Amarkana (you may remember those excerpts earlier in the year?). This snippet is from  quite a bit further in the novel, after Mark and Sandy have left the mysterious mountain oasis, in the company of some new friends… Sandy was bitten by a snake (who we learn today has a name), went into the green light with a woman unknown to her and now is sitting in a room she’s never seen before, with four women who seem to think Sandy is someone else…the Lady of the Star Wind…

After a moment, Amrell raised her eyes to the newcomer and spoke, “As we were telling our guest, we knew she waited in the temple so we sent Sherabti to welcome her as in days of old. Her reaction was not as expected, so I decided to personally conduct our friend and her consort to this meeting place.” Biting her lip, Amrell frowned. “His response was also odd, as if his blood fought Sherabti’s elixir. I couldn’t bring him through the barriers into this place.”

“Is Sherabti the snake? You had the snake bite me to get me here?” The adrenaline of outrage gave Sandy energy, broke the spell holding her so calm. These women were more dangerous than she’d realized.

More from this scene next week!

Continuing with science fiction romance today. Here’s an excerpt from Lady of the Star Wind,  an epic portal fantasy, which is undergoing a final edit and will be released after Star Cruise: Outbreak sometime early next year.

Sandy and Mark have been transported to an unknown world after breaking the Globe of Amarkana (you may remember those excerpts earlier in the year?). They found themselves in an oasis-like area with no exit. This snippet is from  quite a bit further in the novel, after Mark and Sandy have left the mysterious mountain oasis (which wasn’t a zoo after all), in the company of some new friends… Sandy is bitten by a snake, went into the green light with a woman unknown to her and now is sitting in a room she’s never seen before:

Voices came from the hallway, and Sandy decided her best course of action was to seek out the other people. Before she could leave the chair’s deeply cushioned embrace, however, four women entered the room as if dancing, so light and graceful were their movements. Arguing amongst themselves in a language Sandy didn’t comprehend, the newcomers talked over each other.

“Excuse me,” Sandy said in Outlier, cutting through the chatter as she rose. “Where am I? Where’s Mark?”

The quartet swung to face her, and Sandy was struck by the likeness each had to the others, clearly sisters, although the eye and hair colors differed. The tallest stepped forward and answered her in the unknown tongue.

Sandy shook her head. “I’m sorry, I don’t understand.”

I’ll keep going with this scene for a few more weeks and then we can go back to excerpts from Star Cruise: Outbreak, which is my current WIP.

Switching back to science fiction romance today.

This snippet is from  quite a bit further in the novel, after Mark and Sandy have left the mysterious mountain oasis (which wasn’t a zoo after all), in the company of some new friends… Sandy is bitten by a snake and finds herself going into the green light with a woman unknown to her:

The woman reached to take her hand, easily lifting Sandy into the air and drawing her inexorably deeper into whatever corridor the light provided.

“No, wait, I have to stay with Mark,” she said, frightened now, trying to retreat, tugging at the woman’s hand, struggling to remain in the temple. “I can’t leave him.”

“He’ll be fine. Come abide with us for now—we’ve missed you.” The woman touched the center of Sandy’s forehead, and she knew no more.

When she woke, she reclined in a comfortable, white, cushioned chair, feet propped on a footstool carved in the shape of an intricate flower, a brightly hued, tufted cushion as the bloom. A bewildering variety of beverages in cups and goblets rested on a wooden table at her side. As she pulled herself from a slumped position, she realized she’d donned, or been dressed in, flowing robes of pure white dotted with tiny iridescent stars.

The brightly illuminated room was empty…

So this mysterious lady thinks she knows Sandy but everyone is in for a big surprise in this Chapter…No cover and no blurb as yet….
