I love Darik – he’s kind of devil may care and a lone wolf when the book begins, and saddled with a mini version of an alien Artificial Intelligence as a sidekick. I put a few nods to one of my favorite scifi books in the plot – ‘Puppet Masters’. Of course in the eleven or so books since this one, Darik and Nicolle have come to be key figures in the Badari world and both appear as supporting characters in JAMOKAN, which I’m writing now. Sorry, that wasn’t a DARIK spoiler, was it? Since I write Happy Ever After romances…you can kinda figure they find a way somehow to escape the Khagrish in this book, right?

Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!
