Escape Earth. AVOID finding an alien husband. #EpicFail. Ruby – At some point a girl has to stop running. Escaping Earth via signing up to be a mail-order bride sounded smart. Escaping the alien husband she’d been matched to… even smarter. Stowing away on an alien ship expecting to find some little out of the way planet where she could live in peace… That’s where the bottom fell out of her life, a thousand miles above an alien planet. The owner of that vessel? Some blue, over-muscled, arrogant male who may have criminal ties to the Brotherhood. Ruby would be happy to jump ship once they reach a port. The problem? The zyanthan thinks he owns everything on his ship, including her. He can think whatever he wants. Ruby has plans, and they don’t include Torin. Torin – The human female thinks she can outwit Torin, use him and his ship to escape whatever she’s running from. He’ll play her games, but only for so long. The men in the criminal organization he’s dealing with are dangerous, and Ruby’s curiosity and stubbornness could get him and his entire crew killed. Torin hates lying to Ruby, but telling her the truth will endanger her, his crew, and his mission. The more he tries to pull away from her, the more she stirs both of his c*cks. She’s driving him crazy. While he’d love to dump her on some planet, the best way to keep her safe might be to marry her, but that doesn’t fit into his plans. But it would be kind of fun, especially since she can’t stand him.
Erica desperately needs a break from her domineering father – especially his latest scheme to marry her off so she can produce an heir. When she wakes up on a tropical island, it almost seems like the answer to a prayer…Except she’s naked, alone, and she’s never seen an island quite like this before. She’s certainly never seen anyone like the big blue alien who walks out of the sea with a fierce grin and a massive spear. A’rien is smooth, charming – and unlucky. When his latest scheme goes awry, he is tried and convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. His fate seems certain, but instead, he wakes up on an unknown planet. He has everything he needs to survive, including a strange, beautiful female. Has his luck finally turned? But the more time A’rien spends with Erica – teasing her, protecting her, touching her – the more he realizes that she doesn’t belong in this world. Will he give in to his desire to keep her – or will the conscience he never knew he had insist that he let her go?

Valor survived betrayal, captivity, torture, and DNA manipulation along with his special ops team. He can’t sleep, he can barely function, and he’s becoming a danger to all who depended on him. Then on the way home from a meeting with military brass, he sees her from the window of the vehicle they are traveling in. He jumps from the vehicle and pursues her, snatching both her and her daughter from a very public grocery store parking lot, and takes them back to Alliance with him. Becky has struggled for five years to scrape out a life for herself and her daughter. She lost her husband — a special forces soldier — before she ever gave birth to her baby. The military refuses to give her any information at all about the incident that took his life, stating only that he was at first missing in action, then confirmed dead while carrying out a critical mission. ..(more blurb on ebook seller page…)

He’s violent and brooding and wants nothing to do with a human female like me. But he’s the only one who knows how to fight. And I refuse to be helpless when the empire comes after our planet–and it’s only a matter of time until they do. I’ve heard the rumors about the Vandar. They travel in invisible hordes of terrifying warbirds and their menacing raiders terrorize the empire and any ship that gets in their way. I don’t care. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to become a warrior, even if that means convincing Corvak that I’m worthy of his attention. Even if it means sneaking into his quarters and begging. But am I willing to take the deal he finally offers me? He wants off the planet that I so desperately want to save. If he teaches me how to be a warrior, I have to help him escape. As much as the dominant Vandar gets under my skin, will I be able to watch him go?
Of Kindness and Kilowatts is the third of four tightly-connected novels in a new hopepunk series. It’s about our future, how society lives on invisible things, like electricity and trust, that are far too easy to break… and how our most difficult moments are often when we discover the only path forward is healing not just ourselves but the world.

Publisher’s Note: This standalone 20K word novella deals with the powerful theme of depression. Best-selling, Pinnacle award-winning author Alana Khan was a psychotherapist before she began her writing career. She deals with this difficult theme with sensitivity, however dark emotions, as well as explicit sex scenes, are portrayed in this book.

Ensnared By The Serpent’s Gaze is the fourth book in Cosmic Guardians, a sci-fi-fantasy superhero series where the heroine has to find her destined guards… and fall in love with them before time runs out! This is the fourth book in a medium burn series that’s meant to be read in order.
Our heroes wind up in a “whole new world” where steam and mechanical cogs are king, hydrogen balloons still roam the earth, and an evil Queen holds sway over her people. Alex has been drawn there to take the place of the recently assassinated “Lady”, and Lacey is her “Knight” – the former Lady and Knight having been killed by the Queen. In this new world, Alex can do far more than simply talk to plants, and Lacey is “hot” in a whole new way. But, will it be enough to depose the Queen and save the world?
Laurie – Everyone underestimates a happy-go-lucky blonde. That’s why Laurie picked a blonde bombshell persona in the first place. It worked when she initially applied for the Brides of Beshtast program. All they saw was a sweet girl with honey-colored hair, looking to mate with a sexy alien… not a brunette with a dark mission and a secret past. For years, Laurie has worked tirelessly to keep her real self hidden. It’s not that she wants to be alone; it’s just better that way for everyone else. Safer. Plus, if no one knows who she really is, it will be easier to complete her mission and fade away when it’s done. Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to stay unnoticed… especially when it comes to a sexy and curious alien named Jessek, who seems determined to unveil all her secrets and destroy everything she’s worked for. Jessek – There’s something about Laurie. It’s not her body, or her sparkling wit, though those things don’t hurt. It’s the look in her eyes that only shows up when she thinks no one’s looking. The calculating, quiet expression that tells him she’s more than she pretends to be. And when he finds her out late at night wandering by the docks, he realizes he’s been right all along. Can he convince her to trust him with her secrets? Or will she succeed in keeping him at arm’s length?

If he succeeds in his quest, it will either bring Cyken back, or drive him even closer to his new love. Gladria isn’t a safe planet to make a life. A spaceship catastrophe left me stranded on the scorching planet of Gladria, and I just want to get home. At least that’s my goal until I lock eyes with Vale, and everything changes. Soulmates aren’t supposed to exist. And my soulmate certainly can’t be an intimidating alien price with a tail—a tail!— and power over ice and snow. Annie is mine, but I cannot claim her. No male has imprinted on a female in two generations, but the moment I see her, I know Annie is mine. She’s human and can’t understand a word I say, but fate is stronger than a language barrier. I’m not the only male who wants her, but I won’t let anyone else near her. She belongs to me, even if I refuse to claim her myself. I can’t ask her to make a life with me on Gladria. The planet is too inhospitable. But knowing that she’s my fated mate, how can I let her go?
Nar – There’s a reason I’m standing knee-deep in mud, my body pelted with rain that annoys me to the bone. I’m hating on the rival tribe, and I’m entering their games only to eliminate their Earl. I’m not here for the prize. The moment I spot the female—who’s shivering, miserable, but still managing to spit at her captors—I forget I’m not competing for her. My heart thumps in my ears, and the hunter steers. I wanna win her. Michelle – Once upon a recent time, I traveled on a ship bound for a sun-and-sea vacation planet. Until it crashed, and the natives captured and threw me in a hole—then dragged me in front of a couple hundred warriors who’re here competing for breeding rights. I hate them all. Except for the one who seems not quite like the others. Oh, he’s pretty much like them, but some instinct within me tells me if I stop throwing my inner pity party and do as I’m told, I just might survive…Nar: Ask me how I feel about stealing the prize now.
VS Note: Not a romance but a scifi release of note, I love anthologies, this has such a hopeful concept and J Scott Coatsworth is an excellent writer…
We’re a world beset by crises. Climate change, income inequality, racism, pandemics, an almost unmanageable tangle of issues. Sometimes it’s hard to look ahead and see a hopeful future.
We asked sci-fi writers to send us stories about ways to fix what’s wrong with the world. From the sixty-five stories we received, we chose the twelve most amazing (and hopefully prescient) tales.
Dive in and find out how we might mitigate climate change, make war obsolete, switch to alternative forms of energy, and restructure the very foundations of our society. The future’s not going to fix itself.

Meeting an alien race was the last hope Kaia had to find a cure for her terminally ill twin sister. She didn’t hesitate to board a spaceship, giving up everything in her life for the chance. What she hadn’t expected was to wake to discover that not only did they have a potential cure, but that she was the fated mate of an intense and attractive cyborg.

Samantha Kelly had the ideal life…until she becomes the fall-gal for a corporate PR nightmare! Overnight, she lost her job, her reputation, and her fiancé. While recuperating at her parents’ house in Seattle, she gets a phone call asking her to interview for a position with Cœur de Lyon Enterprises in Colorado. She gets more than an interview. She gets insulted by the CEO before she even steps into his office. This rich bad boy has no idea who he’s just driven away, or how hard he’s going to have to work to get her back. It might just be his most challenging job yet…Rikard Sebastian Leon is the CEO of Cœur de Lyon Enterprises, but he’s more than that…he’s the heir apparent of the Leon Sidhe Clan. When his grandparents order him to interview Sam Kelly, he’s livid. How is he supposed to build an empire when his grandparents want to replace his candidate with some blacklisted engineer? He blows the interview before it even begins…but immediately realizes woman he just mortally insulted is his anam cara—his soulmate. Now he’s made sure that he’s the last man she’d ever consider dating, much less spend eternity with! There may be another way to win her affections, all it will take is a little deception and some magic, but surely she’ll forgive him in the end…right? Rikard not only has to win the affection of a woman he’s just met, the only one who can make his soul whole, but he’ll have to reveal secrets his family have protected for centuries; however, Sam has a few secrets of her own she’s been keeping! Between ex-fiancés, jealous ex-lovers, and preparing for this year’s Faire opening, it’s going to take some work for them to get their happily ever after. Welcome to the world of Faire Enchantments! This world masquerades as a fantastic escape from the ordinary, for the ordinary, as a Renaissance and fantasy-themed village and resort, but beneath the façade lies a hidden truth: fairies and monsters are real, and they love to play with Mortals.
Once upon a time, there was a wicked fairy who, in an act of vengeance, cursed a line of princesses to die. A curse that could only be broken by true love’s kiss. You’ve heard this before, haven’t you? The handsome prince. The happily ever after. Utter nonsense. Let me tell you, no one in Briar actually cares about what happens to its princesses. Not the way they care about their jewels and elaborate parties and charm-granting elixirs. I thought I didn’t care, either. Until I met her. Princess Aurora. The last heir to Briar’s throne. Kind. Gracious. The future queen her realm needs. One who isn’t bothered that I am Alyce, the Dark Grace, abhorred and feared for the mysterious dark magic that runs in my veins. Humiliated and shamed by the same nobles who pay me to bottle hexes and then brand me a monster. Aurora says I should be proud of my gifts. That she . . . cares for me. Even though a power like mine was responsible for her curse. But with less than a year until that curse will kill her, any future I might see with Aurora is swiftly disintegrating—and she can’t stand to kiss yet another insipid prince. I want to help her. If my power began her curse, perhaps it’s what can lift it. Perhaps together we could forge a new world. Nonsense again. Because we all know how this story ends, don’t we? Aurora is the beautiful princess. And I—I am the villain.

YOU ARE MINE (THE LYCANS 2) by Jenika Snow
VS Note: I liked the cover but it was a bit too racy for my PG13+ blog…
Luca – I’d lost my mind, was more animal than man. More crazed than sane. And all because I hadn’t found my mate, that one female born to be mine and mine alone. As an over four-hundred-year-old Lycan, a supernatural being who was able to shift from human to my inner wolf, my kind was known as fearsome beasts with unimaginable power. All feared us, and rightfully so. I had given up hope of ever finding my mate and because of that had let my inner beast reign supreme, control me. I was far more rabid than anything else. But then it happened. I saw her, my halfling mate. Part Lycan. Part vampire. She was perfect and made just for me. I craved her like no other, and I’d have her as mine no matter what. For there was nothing more dangerous than a male of the Otherworld finding his mate and keeping her close. But she had protectors, brothers and a father who saw me for the beast I was, and were ready to go to war with me… to keep her from me. I’d been waiting my entire life for her, and they’d soon realize I’d level anything and anyone who thought to stand in the way of claiming my prize, no matter the consequences or repercussions.
I ran from my fated mate. I drove to the middle of nowhere, where I thought I’d be safe. And somehow, I ended up here. Amarok has secrets. And it’s a town filled with shifters. The very thing I’ve been trying to get away from. My arrival has shattered the fragile peace this town’s had for the last century. War is coming between the two packs, and only I seem to have the ability to stop it. The two alphas in the town are determined to have me. But a killer wants the very same thing. Me? I just want whatever’s inside of me to be released. Like Wilder and Daxon, I carry my own secrets, ones that make it impossible for my fated mate to let me go. They call me wild…But I just want to be free.
The Present – Jett Johnson has always felt inadequate next to her petite, light-skinned, slender twin sister, Nic. At six-feet-tall, a size 22, and flawless obsidian skin she has always been cast aside for her sister in their community, among men, and even their own mother. If she had to hear “You’re TWINS?!” one more time, she’d scream. The final straw comes when Jett finds her sister in her bed with her husband. Fed up and ready to leave everything behind in NYC, Jett decides to start over in Portland, Maine of all places. The Past – Believed to be dead after an epic battle, Viking chieftain Jerrik Rolfson is given a funeral fit for a king. The only problem is, he’s not dead. The poison coursing through his veins has left him paralyzed and unable to speak. At the mercy of the deadly sea, his body is carried into a mysterious fog. Their Times Collide – On her daily morning walk in her new town, Jett finds a charred and badly broken longboat capsized against the giant rocks along the coast of Maine. Lying inside appears to be one of the most beautiful and biggest men she’s ever seen. Finding him still alive, she jumps into action to get him help. Once he’s awake, Jerrik finds himself in a strange place surrounded by strange people. Only the stunning dark-skinned woman he’d seen in what he thought was his dreams could calm the massive Viking. Jett doesn’t know if the large man is crazy or delusional. But wanting to help, she’s now found herself as the sole caretaker of a giant man who believes himself to be a Viking Laird from the past. What could possibly go wrong?

My name is Elodie Matthews, and a few months ago, I became the new police chief in the stamp-sized town of Hope, Alaska. Running from a past I don’t want to face; my career path is now colliding with native lore, legends of shape-shifters… and wolves. One wolf in particular. I’ve seen him before—in dreams that have been plaguing me since I moved to Hope. The dreams are always the same; a gigantic, black wolf with haunting steel-gray eyes. He wants something from me. I’m just not sure what. When my deputy and I retrieve a frozen corpse from the Alaskan tundra with a silver dagger stuck in his chest, those legends about shape-shifters become more real than I care to admit. It’s my first homicide case in Hope, and I’m determined to solve it and prove myself. But, when the corpse ends up coming back to life and escapes, the case becomes anything but routine. My prime suspect is Alexander Johnson, a sinfully handsome bounty hunter who knows a lot more about shifters than he’s letting on. The missing John Doe case is definitely personal to Alex, but I’m just not sure how personal. And I’m also not sure if I can trust him, though he might end up being my only ally. That or he’s the killer. And there’s also the fact that Alex happens to have hair as black as night and eyes the color of steel.

I’m Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd owner of the Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. Things have been busy lately. While the near-constant attempts on my life have ceased, I now have a vampire gentleman caller. I’ve been living with Clive and the rest of his vampires for a few weeks while the Slaughtered Lamb is being rebuilt. It’s going about as well as you’d expect. My mother was a wicche and long dormant abilities are starting to make themselves known. If I’d had a choice, necromancy wouldn’t have been my top pick, but it’s coming in handy. A ghost warns me someone is coming to kill Clive. When I rush back to the nocturne, I find vamps from New Orleans readying an attack. One of the benefits of vampires looking down on werewolves is no one expects much of me. They don’t expect it right up until I take their heads. Now, Clive and I are setting out for New Orleans to take the fight back to the source. Vampires are masters of the long game. Revenge plots are often decades, if not centuries, in the making. We came expecting one enemy, but quickly learn we have darker forces scheming against us. Good thing I’m the secret weapon they never see coming.

Everything anyone knew.

When your dreams become reality, waking up can be a nightmare. Maeve’s already broken world is turned upside down when visions of ancient castles and a vengeful Celtic queen haunt her every breath. Drawn to the land of her ancestors, she must choose between remaining safe in her untouchable isolation or heading into the unimaginable quest of a lifetime. Before long, she unravels an astonishing legend held secret for centuries, shocking those around her. But her closest confidantes, an alluring history professor and a tantalizing rogue musician, have secrets too, ones that connect them through the realms of time. Will Maeve hold onto the simple life she knows or will she embrace her true destiny and risk everything through centuries of lifetimes?
DESTINY has been preparing me for this moment since I took my first breath. Unfortunately, if I don’t embrace the path I’ve been created for, Destiny will withdraw that breath. I’ve traveled countless miles only to realize I had the answers all along. I battled ancient creatures, evil men, and brought magic back to the Fae realm. I have many enemies whose knives are aimed for my back. Despite everything, I’m desperately trying to get back to my mate, my family, and my kingdom. A brutal war is coming to destroy everything I have left, and if I fail, all hope of a new world will be surrendered to an infinite age of darkness.
I’m not supposed to be some storybook heroine who’s all gung-ho about justice and saving the world and blah, blah, blah. And yet… somehow I’ve ended up in this position. It was completely by accident, of course, but now it’s up to me and my band of halflings, plus my elven grandpa and an ex-hunter, to restore the Veil between the worlds to its prior state. Really, I’m just desperate to get home to Portland, where I can hug Mom and Grams, have a hot cup of coffee, and eat a pizza again. The only problem? The secret to our little border issue lie in the middle of a mountain that just happens to be surrounded by evil and monsters. This should be a piece of cake, right?
I’m kind of screwed. I got myself into a tricky situation on social media. And now I need to find a hunky husband a.s.a.p. How the hell am I going to pull this off? Luckily, the sweet solution magically presents itself. A mail order bride agency? In the 21st century? Is this the shadiest thing on the planet or what? Why not, though? It’s just a temporary solution, nothing too serious. Right? But the site didn’t mention how hot he is. It also didn’t mention that he lives in a mansion. I’m slowly starting to realize that this guy’s the whole package…That for some unknown reason he wants me just as much as I want him…Until he finds out why I’m really here.
After the harrowing battle for the Tower of Thorns, Reyna Darragh yearns for solitude and peace. But she has little time to recover. The war-torn kingdoms depend on her for survival. She’s the only one who can stop the Namhaid from cleaving the world. And if she fails, every soul alive will be lost to the flames of Unseelie’s madness.
Their bloodlines guarantee their enemy status. Demons and dragons don’t mix. Or at least they aren’t supposed to…They’re in a race to find a rare artifact. One they both need for different reasons. Outside forces threaten to destroy everything and dark pasts come to light. Secrets are blown wide open, but Portia has one secret that will change everything …One that’s already growing inside her.

So the bills are piling up, our reputations hang in the balance, and we have no new customers. I can almost see the writing on the wall. My dream will crash and burn. To top it all off, my tracking skills are acting up, confusing me and throwing me for a loop when I least expect it. Despite all of this, I can’t turn away from the chaos that threatens to turn St. Louis into a Skew warzone, and I keep getting deeper and deeper into the awful scheme that the power-hungry werewolves and vampires that rule the city have concocted. And as I become the center of their deranged plot, I know I have no other choice but to fight them. I just hope I don’t lose myself in the process.

Even for one of the top assassins in Hell like him, Hartt’s latest contract would have been difficult enough, but there’s a complication—a beautiful, flame-haired, and dangerously tempting complication. He’s hired the top guild in Hell too. Worse, the male she’s up against is wickedly alluring, a dark elf warrior who sets her blood on fire, and the heat that sparks between them is in danger of burning her resolve to take him down to ashes. VS: Next up in my ancient Egyptian backlist is SONG OF THE NILE, which is a direct sequel to LADY OF THE NILE, but focuses on Merneith, who left the hidden city in the previous book. (The story is standalone.) She’s a musician, a harpist and I had so much fun researching ancient instruments and music for this story. Nikare, the dashing medjai officer who was a supporting character in the previous book is her love interest and various Great Ones make their appearances, including Khonsu. Part of the plot Nikare is investigating is based on laws and events in this general 1550 BCE time frame. Here’s the blurb:
Merneith, a harpist of rare talents, blessed by the goddess Hathor, has recently arrived in Thebes and joined Pharaoh’s court, but must hide secrets from her past. As she settles into her new life in the palace, the one man she can’t forget and followed to Thebes is unaccountably absent.
Nikare, a Medjai police officer serving under Pharaoh’s direct orders, is now deep undercover investigating high crimes against Egypt and forbidden to contact Merneith. Masquerading as a priest to deceive the plotters, he watches over her from afar and longs for the day he can approach her openly.
When an unscrupulous noble ensnares Merneith in the web of evil Nikare is pledged to bring down, the two must stand together against earthly and magical forces to save their own lives and protect Egypt.
How much help will the gods provide? Will the pair survive the final showdown between Pharaoh and the conspirators and find the happy future together they desire?
This is a standalone novel but is also a direct sequel to Lady of the Nile, which is where Merneith and Nikare were first encountered as supporting characters. Now they move front and center in the fight to protect Egypt from a new threat. Mild spoilers for Lady of the Nile.
LINKS TO RECENT NEW RELEASES POSTS from Veronica:
“New” is generally plus or minus a week or two. I try to catch up on ones I missed in recent months. And I may mention ‘special items’.
I do NOT cover every single new release in SFR/FantasyR/PNR. I never have. That would be an impossible task for any human! I assemble my list by hand every week based on various informal inputs, and I do curate the list to some extent…
Some authors aren’t in KU but still don’t list books with Apple or other platforms. This report is very time consuming to prepare so I’ve always had to limit myself and cannot go and look up every book on all the platforms. If an author gives me their other buy links, I include them here but generally I develop the post on my own, not from author-supplied information. I curate and prepare this post individually every week to help connect readers/books/authors and I have to be very careful not to give it so much time as an activity that I don’t write my own novels! Thanks for the feedback and happy reading!
I check and verify all the buy links at the time I create the post but after that I’m not responsible.
