As always, I recommend sampling before you buy! I have not read most of the new releases listed (although I always end up one-clicking a bunch as I prepare these posts LOL).
I spend so many hours playing that I dream about dangerous missions on other worlds…and my gorgeous, in-game training partner, Kassius. That is, until I win. I beat the Starfighter Training Academy. But is it a game? Or alien software designed to recruit new, unsuspecting soldiers for a war in another star system? Because when my hot as heck alien shows up at my workplace demanding I leave Earth and travel to the Vega system? What? When he informs me it’s my duty to fight Queen Raya and the Dark Fleet? Claims he wants me as much as I’ve craved him? Let’s just say things get crazy. Facing the truth is never easy, but when I arrive at the Elite Starfighter base I learn that Kassius cheated the system, hacked into the game, and lied to everyone on two worlds to make me his. Now who’s obsessed?

For years, all I’d dreamt about was being rescued. But then it actually happened. When a known outlaw came aboard and threw me over his shoulder, I was sure I was headed for something even worse than the life I’d been living as the Patrol’s prisoner. Before I know it, I’m teaming up with this dangerously arrogant alien, hiding from seedy characters on a planet I’ve never heard of, and smuggling guns through dark and mysterious connections. When I discover there’s no way to get back home, I have to choose my battles wisely. Should I stay with the surly but sexy alien who just can’t seem to stay out of trouble, or should I face off with the very force that held me in chains?
Just when I think I’ve made up my mind, I discover that there’s more to my unruly rescuer than I could have imagined. What will I do when the walls around his heart begin crumbling?
When we crashed on an ice world, my A’kai master began feeding on me to survive. When I’m rescued by Commander Vorek, I am both grateful and wary. He and his people are stranded here too, and surrounded by enemies on all sides. Vorek claims I’m his fated one—his Si’an T’kara. The more time we spend together, I find myself falling for him. But Vorek carries a dark secret—his people are the inspiration for the ancient Earth Vampire myths. And now I find myself wondering: Can I love both the monster and the man?
I would do anything to regain my lost honor. But can I give up my mate’s chance of happiness? In my youth I was stupid, let myself be drawn into the shadows of the universe. I finally have a chance to make good on my past, to redeem myself. But even if I can, will she ever trust me again?
Jade will do anything to protect her daughter, even cooperate with the blue, horned alien who says a friend sent him to get her, to keep her safe. She’s heard that line before. Jade shouldn’t trust him, but she can’t stay on Earth either. She has to take her chances with Havok. Who has a name like Havok, anyway? But with her baby growing attached to the big blue lug, and the way he holds Clementine as if she were his, Jade may have to pretend to be the alien’s bride… anything to avoid losing her daughter. Havok always wanted a family. And now he has one. A human and her youngling named after a fruit. He always knew humans were strange, but wonderful at the same time, especially this guarded female and her precious little one. In stealing them from Earth, he’s made them fugitives and now he’s taking them to the worst place possible… home. Zyan. A planet about to be plunged into another war, a planet full of traitors, and worse… his people who reject him because of the color of his skin and horns. The human female doesn’t trust him and will flee if he’s not careful. He will protect her, even if it means betraying the man he’s fought to become for so long, the warrior who swore to protect his planet above all else.

Love is love…anywhere in the universe.
Flora is lost in an unknown forest until she stumbles across a cabin in the woods. At first, she’s relieved; finally, someone who can help her and her friend. But it becomes clear very quickly that this “hermit” is not who he seems. Not just because he uses a hologram to hide his real face. Not just because he acts like he’s used to people following his orders. But because he won’t tell her his name, or anything else about himself. It’s none of her business, really, Flora tells herself. She’s not here to uncover some great secret. As soon as her friend heals, they’ll be on their way. She doesn’t want anything to do with this hermit after that… Especially since her body calls to his in a way that is just plain dangerous. Prince Ozian shouldn’t be here. He should be on F’Reit Prime, leading his people, not stuck in the middle of a sentient forest hidden behind a disguise. Of course, he does not spend most of his time feeling sorry for himself; in fact, he has lived like this for years, and managed to make it work. That is, until Flora pushes her way into his cabin and into his life. Her curves and forth-right personality make her almost impossible to resist. Will he be able to keep her at arm’s length? Or will he give in to temptation and claim her for himself?
Can you live with yourself if others die? Ellie loves the freedom of space. She works alone, takes jobs as she pleases, and tolerates her friends butting into her life. It does have its downsides, though. Like not being able to go to the corner grocery store for snacks. And God forbid something breaks down… like now. But with her not-so-helpful AI, she’s confident she can handle this as well, and they land her ship on a seemingly uninhabited planet for repairs. But almost immediately after landing, an alien soldier barges on board and holds her at gunpoint, demanding use of her ship. Ah, hell, no… She fights back with all her might and manages to escape, but as he chases her through the wilderness, gunshots from a new threat ring through the air, causing her to duck and hide. As the soldier stands tall and fires back, she can’t help but wonder…Am I running from the wrong threat?
A brilliant mind! When Keral came searching for the human female who escaped her slavery he found her hiding in the bowels of Caras station. Informed Addison needs extra care, Keral is determined to take away all her worries. Yet instead of a fragile mind, he finds a woman who outshines any he’s ever met, in intelligence, bravery and beauty. But in such a lawless place how can he keep her safe?
Intergalactic bounty hunter Bodin Hart has accepted his true nature. He is a deadly beast – a fierce, yellow-eyed monster with an uncontrollable urge to kill. But he’s having more trouble accepting that his true nature means he must stay as far away from his fated mate Brielle as possible, or risk killing her as he grapples with controlling his change. Brielle Tideknell is not your average princess, however. And the idea of leaving Bodin alone on a planet populated by enormous roaming creatures likely to tear him apart doesn’t sit well with this witch. Defying every order Bodin gave her, and refusing to hear the pleas of her sister or of Bodin’s somewhat unconcerned feline companion, Tubbs, she goes to the planet’s surface to help her mate manage the change. But what she finds there is far more terrifying than she could ever have imagined. And now there’s no telling whether either she or Bodin will escape the planet alive. As the Dominus continue to overtake the galaxy, worlds hang in the balance. And on the surface of this distant cold craggy planet, Brielle and Bodin must both learn to control powers that threaten to doom them … or to make them the best chance the galaxy has to overthrow the Dominus Establishment.
‘Run baby, run—dance baby, dance’ were the words of an ancient song that meant the life or death of one girl, who traveled the many worlds with a dark eyed male on her trail. When a dangerous gene was discovered among the people of Keveah, the Organization of Worlds gave the residents choices. They could be altered or face annihilation. Her parents chose to leave this life together, after finding ways to smuggle her off the world to live and run. So run she did, hiding her ancestry and always traveling. Going from spaceships to satellites to colonized worlds, finding work in the backside of businesses or where there was no public contact. But after years of feeling safe, she discovered she had someone watching her, someone who knew her true history. She had no choice but to run.
A decade ago, I brought war to Solgad, home of the Jal’zar. I sacked the planet and slaughtered the people, all to save my race from extinction. Until one of their female warriors hissed defiance, promising me death at her hands no matter how her body longed for mine. Each night, she came to end me, only to succumb to the raw urges of her mating heat. Each night, I gave her hungry womb what it needed, the way we coupled neither safe nor sane. I was the enemy she couldn’t kill. She was the female I couldn’t have. Together, we unleashed chaos. Many solar cycles after the occupation, I return to Solgad, searching the ashen plains for her: my soulmate. This time, I will claim the Jal’zar female as mine, and nobody will get in the way. Not even myself.

As the attacks increase in intensity and damage, events unfold that changes relations between Stryxians and humans forever. Can Gwen and Axika get over their differences—and submit to their desires—before the saboteur succeeds in destroying the base and their best chance at peace?
VS Note: Not a romance. A scifi release of note...
One thousand years in the future, the zyme, a thick blanket of luminous green slime, covers the oceans. Glaciers three-miles-high rise over the continents. The old stories say that when the Jemen, godlike beings from the past, realized their efforts to halt global warming had gone terribly wrong, they made a desperate gamble to save life on earth and recreated species that had survived the worst of the earth’s Ice Ages. Sixteen-summers-old Lynx and his best friend Quiller are members of the Sealion People—archaic humans known as Denisovans. They live in a world growing colder, a world filled with monstrous predators that hunt them for food. When they flee to a new land, they meet a strange old man who impossibly seems to be the last of the Jemen. He tells Lynx the only way he can save his world is by sacrificing himself to the last true god, a quantum computer named Quancee.
Bored with my life, I needed a challenge. On a whim I signed up for the Centauri Brides program. I’m smart. So smart it turns people off. I learned a long time ago to pretend I’m an airhead. People aren’t threatened by a cheerful gum-chewing blonde who’s always cracking jokes. It worked for me before. But my new mate wasn’t amused. A retired general, he treated me like a new recruit he was trying to whip into shape. ..(more blurb on ebook seller page…)
Ever since he returned from Trovilia with a gunshot wound the size of a watermelon in his leg, Ahlvo has been in a dark place. He can’t train with his crew. He can’t fulfill his duties as Varrek’s second-in-command. And now he’s bedridden, stubborn as a mule, and incredibly cranky. As a healer-in-training, I have been charged with caring for him. Not that I mind. I love my job, and under normal circumstances, spending this much time with the most charming male in the galaxy would be a treat.
But this is not the Ahlvo I know. The longer his leg takes to heal, the more his depression threatens to crush him from the inside. I want to help him. I know I can help him, but I can’t force him to focus on his mental health. I’ve seen firsthand what can happen if I do. Most importantly, I can’t let my feelings get in the way. I’m not his inara, his soul mate: no matter how much he flirts with me, no matter how much I trust him, no matter how many butterflies fill my stomach when his hand brushes against mine, no matter how badly I want his lips on me. I can do this…right?

He’s a character in a book. None of this matters anymore, for the lines have gotten blurred. I need to be protected, and my fierce alien ravager is going to protect me.
COMPASS ROSE (A COMPASS ROSE NOVEL BOOK 1) by Anna Burke
VS: From JUNE 2018, but I didn’t see it then. A WLW novel set in a dystopian future, very well reviewed. The sequel comes out next month (and I will mention it here when it does).
In the year 2513, the only thing higher than the seas is what’s at stake for those who sail them.
Rose was born facing due north, with an inherent perception of cardinal points flowing through her veins. Her uncanny sense of direction earns her a coveted place among the Archipelago Fleet elite, but it also attracts the attention of Admiral Comita, who sends her on a secret mission deep into pirate territory. Accompanied by a ragtag crew of mercenaries and under the command of Miranda, a captain as bloodthirsty as she is alluring, Rose discovers the hard way that even the best sense of direction won’t be enough to keep her alive if she can’t learn to navigate something far more dangerous than the turbulent seas. Aboard the mercenary ship, Man o’ War, Rose learns quickly that trusting the wrong person can get you killed—and Miranda’s crew have no intention of making things easy for her—especially Miranda’s trusted first mate, Orca, who is as stubborn as she is brutal.
VS Note: From NOV 11, 2020, re-release of an older book, sounded intriguing and I missed it in NOV so…it was mentioned for our SFR Bingo books list last week and I now have one clicked it.

Within the Eastern Empire, Duke Kordas Valdemar rules a tiny, bucolic Duchy that focuses mostly on horse breeding. Kordas has lived his life looking over his shoulder. The signs in the Empire are increasingly dire. Under the direction of the Emperor, mages have begun to harness the power of dark magics, including blood magic, the powers of the Abyssal Planes, and the binding and “milking” of Elemental creatures. But then one of the Duchy’s mages has a breakthrough. There is a way to place a Gate at a distance so far from the Empire that it is unlikely the Emperor can find or follow them as they evacuate everyone that is willing to leave. But time is running out, and Kordas has been summoned to the Emperor’s Court.
Can his reputation as a country bumpkin and his acting skills buy him and his people the time they need to flee? Or will the Emperor lose patience, invade to strip Valdemar of everything of worth, and send its conscripted people into the front lines of the Imperial wars?
VS Note: She’s a must buy for me. I absolutely love her dark and steamy world. Sexy and HOT always.

Now, Bree has to put her heart on the back burner as she is offered a major job hunting down the very person causing all the undead to rise. And she has two days to do it before the whole town turns into a scene from the Walking Dead. Time to pull up your big girl panties and swig a little whiskey. Things are about to get interesting.

Now, as its bearer, Domek wields its power, but the wisp, known for leading travellers to their deaths, will not be so easily controlled. After discovering a conspiracy amongst the pijavice that could see them unleash terror on the daylight world, Domek finds himself in a race against those who aim to twist alchemical science for their own dangerous gain.
In a world where men rule and slavery is the common practice, being the only queen and abolishing slavery puts a large target on your back. Ashera is a queen in a world of kings. She took her crown and has paid for it in blood. Not everyone is willing to let her rule in peace, however, especially not the neighboring kingdoms for whom human slavery is still very much in practice. Ashera continues to bleed for her crown while showing each kingdom that men aren’t the only ones who can rule. But when a resistance against Ashera’s rule grows, she’s forced to realize that she can’t create widespread change on her own. She’ll need to win the hearts of the men who rule alongside her if she’s to crush the resistance and free all of humanity. Seducing them is easy, she’s a succubus with lithe curves and a wicked tongue. It’s getting them to change their minds that is the challenge. Especially when she’s faced with an unruly and violent Vampire Prince, an over the top dramatic Fae Prince, an Angelic king, and a Demonic assassin. They’re all alpha males in their own right, each one thinking they know what’s best for their queen. Unfortunately for them, she has no intention of listening.
Jasper and Ava have made it through every hurdle thrown their way — together. Their relationship is stronger — and hotter — than ever. But now something new and deadly is after Ava. The pair also can’t forget the minor detail that her mother is still missing. The supernatural world is dangerous, and full of things that go bump in the night. Will they be able to find the monster before the monster finds her?
VS Note: Described as a “historical fantasy romance” by one reviewer.
Cecilia Bassingwaite is the ideal Victorian lady. She’s also a thief. Like the other members of the Wisteria Society crime sorority, she flies around England drinking tea, blackmailing friends, and acquiring treasure by interesting means. Sure, she has a dark and traumatic past and an overbearing aunt, but all things considered, it’s a pleasant existence. Until the men show up. Ned Lightbourne is a sometimes assassin who is smitten with Cecilia from the moment they meet. Unfortunately, that happens to be while he’s under direct orders to kill her. His employer, Captain Morvath, who possesses a gothic abbey bristling with cannons and an unbridled hate for the world, intends to rid England of all its presumptuous women, starting with the Wisteria Society. Ned has plans of his own. But both men have made one grave mistake. Never underestimate a woman. When Morvath imperils the Wisteria Society, Cecilia is forced to team up with her handsome would-be assassin to save the women who raised her–hopefully proving, once and for all, that she’s as much of a scoundrel as the rest of them.
Ashley has it all. But all she really wants is to be valued as a strong, powerful business woman. The problem is, her board of directors is full of crotchety old men that hate the idea of a single woman being their CEO. With the suggestion- forceful assistance -of her mother, she gets in touch with Gerri Wilder who’s supposed to fix her personal life. Good luck with that one. Flare and Blaze run a competitive pharmaceutical company. But they need to find their mate in order to cement their leadership roles. When they meet firecracker Ashley, they know she’s the woman for them. She’s feisty, sweet and can handle two strong males all by herself. Not to mention her curvy body and beautiful smile are making it hard for them to concentrate on their job. It’s not long until Ashley realizes Flare and Blaze are a bigger problem than her board of directors. They’re her direct competitors. If that’s not enough, someone’s out to get them and her out of the way. It’s a fight for love and survival. Will she find a way to balance romance and a career or will her life go up in smoke?
What began as a war of force had turned to one of secrets and strategies. An army was amassing in the shadows, hidden from our eyes, slipping into our ranks until there was nowhere safe to turn, and nobody left to trust. To win the war, I would be forced to forget the man I trusted, and to bind myself to the men I hated. Forever. Since the first day, the great masters have fought for control over me, fought to claim me in marriage and seize my power for themselves. Every step of the way, they’ve asked me to choose. They’ve attempted to deal and swindle the decision out of me, but I’ve managed to out-manoeuvre them at every turn, bringing me to this moment. The moment I finally choose. If they can take my power, I can take theirs, and if marriage is how they want to do it, then so be it. I’ll marry all five of them, and choose myself.
I’m a sucker for love. But my love life is pretty much non-existent. The only thing adding a little flavor to it are ice cream and romance novels. It makes me want to swear love off for good. I’ll give it one last shot, though. I signed up for a mail order bride service. Yes, I know what you’re thinking.
But guess what? I got matched. It seems like there is a little problem, though. My new husband looks like he wasn’t expecting me and my curves. Like I’m a bit of a surprise. The bigger problem? I can’t go back home. So we agree on a little experiment. He’ll treat me as his wife for one week. One week of fun and romance. One week… to convince him to let me stay.
After two years of being separated and held at the mercy of a usurper queen, Creed is in a position to reclaim his throne. Honor is recovered. Our mating quad is complete. Now all we have to do is repair the damage to the Dornte quadrant and pull it all together. The citizens want safety. And freedom. And the restoration of the royal family. We’re determined to give them that and more. But even as things turn around for the four of us, strife in the lives of those we love keep us fighting for our happily ever after. Doesn’t matter. We’re a lock and it’ll be worth the fight in the end.
VS Note: Author states it ends in a cliffhanger.
A CITY CRUMBLING… AND I’M THE ONE WHO BROKE IT – I thought mating with Merrick would be enough to keep my power under control, but it wasn’t. And now, the Ruby at the center of our city is cracking. With werewolves from all over the world migrating to Shifter City, we need to get our crap together–and fast. Wish us luck, because we’re going to need it.
The strange, nerdy one—that’s always been me. I’ve practiced being normal my entire life. And I thought I was getting better at it. Until I came face to face with him. Every female here takes his classes because of his looks. I vowed to never be one of them. True, he’s the sole reason I picked this college. But it’s because of his expertise, nothing else. And now, standing here before him, I’m making it weird. He’s got me thinking of magic, and dragons, and dragon eggs. He’s got me thinking of touch starvation and how I want him. But he’s my mentor, and nothing can ever happen. And yet, I’m making it weird. I’m crossing lines…I’m blurring boundaries…No, not blurring. Shattering them beyond all recognition.

I just hope he can get down off his high horse for long enough to save those around us.

Two souls ripped apart. Uncertain of how or when or if they’ll find their way back to each other. Maybe it’s for the best. After all, an angel has no business in the demon world. And a demon sure as hell has no business mingling with the angels. But how much fun would it be if everyone followed the rules?
The thing about blood… it can’t lie. For my entire life, I’d been complacent. I allowed others to make decisions for me until I almost lost my fated mate. So I did the only thing I could, I took him and ran. Secrets surface and hidden truths are discovered… truths that no one dreamed about facing again. Armed with new knowledge, I must make a choice. Be open to learn about who I really am or continue to stay ignorant. The answer isn’t quite as simple as some would leave you to believe. With each move I make, I set the course for my future. With everything falling apart around me, I’m not quite sure what I’ll become when all is said and done.

I’m not who anyone thinks I am. But they all want to make me their queen. Kidnapped from Earth six years ago, I’m used to hiding my true nature. I pretended to be bad at my studies while secretly helping the resistance against the City’s cruel overlords. But now that my sister has taken the dragons’ throne, I’m in the spotlight. Not great for a Fae thief. A feral dragon has chosen me as his mate, and he’s not alone. All kinds of beings think they owe me for rescuing them from prison. Problem is, I didn’t do that. My sister did, disguised as me. But I’ve got to play the hand I’m dealt… even if it means putting myself in the middle of all these handsome young men. Tragic, I know.
Maybe I’ll stop a brewing magical war. Maybe I’ll start it. Let’s find out.
VS: Another standalone from my backlist is LADY OF THE STAR WIND. I always loved stories of people who took a one way trip through a portal to another world out of sheer desperation, which is where my couple begins. With help from an ancient and somewhat ominous being, they find themselves on a less advanced planet, where they seem to have an identity already established. I got to play with lots of mysteries and even a dab of time travel. I also gave a quick glimpse into the Outlier Empire, which I mention on occasion in my Sectors novels. The original inspiration for this novel was a four thousand year old Egyptian mirror I saw at the LA Museum a long time ago….maybe someday I’ll do a sequel. I had several in mind but other projects intervened.
Are they merely luckless lovers … or a legend come back to life?
Mark Denaltieri, ex-Sector Special Forces, has been hired by the Outlier Empress to rescue her granddaughter, Princess Alessandra, from kidnappers. Since the Empress once had him tortured and banished, she’s the last person Mark wants to work for. But he takes the job. He’ll save Alessandra, his first love, and discover why she didn’t speak for him when he desperately needed her. Then he’ll be on his way, finally free of his past.
Alessandra would rather her rescuer was anyone but Mark–after all, he let her believe he was dead all this time. But when the couple are forced to flee her captors by Traveling via a strange crystal globe, they find themselves in a lovely Oasis on a desert planet, the old attraction sizzling between them again.
They soon discover they are far from alone. The Oasis holds the entrance to another world, one in which the inhabitants are convinced Sandy and Mark are the Lady of the Star Wind and her Warrior, come to free them from an evil Queen.
Mark and Sandy must work together to unearth an ancient mirror, and crown the true king of this land. Can they fulfill the prophecy of the Lady and her Warrior … and this time, will their love survive the test?

LINKS TO RECENT NEW RELEASES POSTS from Veronica:
“New” is generally plus or minus a week or two. I try to catch up on ones I missed in recent months. And I may mention ‘special items’.
I do NOT cover every single new release in SFR/FantasyR/PNR. I never have. That would be an impossible task for any human! I assemble my list by hand every week based on various informal inputs, and I do curate the list to some extent…
Some authors aren’t in KU but still don’t list books with Apple or other platforms. This report is very time consuming to prepare so I’ve always had to limit myself and cannot go and look up every book on all the platforms. If an author gives me their other buy links, I include them here but generally I develop the post on my own, not from author-supplied information. I curate and prepare this post individually every week to help connect readers/books/authors and I have to be very careful not to give it so much time as an activity that I don’t write my own novels! Thanks for the feedback and happy reading!
I check and verify all the buy links at the time I create the post but after that I’m not responsible.
